Hi, I have a 14 yr. old Tabby (who is my world) She snuk out about 1.5 hours ago and will not come out from beneath the house ours then the neighbors. We moved here about 9 mos. ago. I have tried everything to get her to come in. Any suggestions? I have tried tuna and a laser light. She just sits and meaows and when I go to get her she hisses and runs. I am so afraid she will not find her way home or get hurt. She's very petite and little. Should I leave her for the night? Do you think she will come back? I do have a tag on her w/ my number. I am absolutly going crazy. Should i sleep w/ the front door cracked? Please anything will help!

Thanks

Get a live trap and try to trap her. If possible, leave a window open near the front door so you can hear her meowing late at night if she decides to come to the door to be let in.

Unfortunately, I think Kittykris may be right. When a cat gets old and close to passing away, they will try to leave and hide to pass alone. They don't really know why cats do it but it is common.

I am very sorry if this upsets you as I know how much you must love your cat.

Don't give up though! I know I wouldn't. It sounds like you have tried a lot of different things. It is possible she is just petrified from being outside or it could be dementia (yes, cats can get that too). Has she had any other odd behavior before she got outside? Either way, I think you may have to call the local shelter or animal control. Make sure you tell them it is YOUR cat and you just want to get her back inside. They should be able to help you. You could also try your local SPCA. Actually, I would try them before Animal Control. Try to get one of these organizations to help you. You might have to trap her. There are plenty of traps on the market that WILL NOT harm her, so don't worry. Your local pet stores should have them.

Good luck to you sweetie! I can only imagine how you must be feeling right now. I would be going crazy too if one or both of my cats got out like that.

I would leave food and water for her. She may be too sacred to come out tonight. I would not keep chasing her it will only make her more nervous. When my cat got out I left the door open and got her to run in the direction of the door and she went in the house herself. I was about to lose my mind. If this continues a live trap will not hurt the kitty. Hope your kitty is ok

Aww,poor kitty,she sounds terrafied !

Keep going back and trying to get her to come to the food, and talk to her.
she may be just soo scared that she isnt sure what to do since she has never been outside.
if you can get close enough to her, you could try tossing a towel over her and then grabbing her right up - since she is scared and running on you, you will have to act very quickly if you do that so that she wont have a chance to run.
contact your local shelter so they know she is out.
they might also be able to give you some ideas.
you can get what is called a have a heart trap. you place the kitty food on the inside and when kitty gets in the trap door closes behing it so t hey cant get out.If you cant get her tonight, I would see if your local shelter has one you can borrow or go buy one (I think most local feed stores carry them)

Unfortunatley at her age there might be something wrong, either mentally as in dementia or physically. If she has never been outside, she might be going away for her final days, (I hope I do not upset you more.) Something is confusing her or scaring her. I would still try to lure her close enough so you can grab her gently. Keep talking and maybe get someone to help you

That would be "sneaked," not snuk. Anyway, she may have thought it would be fun to go outside and now she is panicked. I am so glad you have a name tag on her. Keep food and water near your door and she may be calmer in a little while.

Don't chase her she is scared and will run. When you know where she is put food and water where she can get it. When she is brave enough to get a drink and bite to eat she will calm down. Then when you come to feed her stay back and talk nice to her then leave her alone until she is ready to come to you.

maybe call animal control and tell themabout your cat. Let them know it is YOUR cat. Tell them she is a senior and you are not comfotable with her outside. Hopefully they will come and get your buddy indoors before too late!
