Are tanning beds safer than natural sunlight?

Answer
No. There is no safe tan. Exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation — whether from sunlight or tanning beds — damages your skin, increasing your risk of skin cancer and premature skin aging. In fact, malignant melanoma, the most serious type of skin cancer, has seen a sharp rise in recent years, perhaps due to the increased exposure to UV radiation from both the sun and tanning beds.

You can prevent skin damage by limiting your exposure to UV radiation and by using a broad-spectrum sunscreen. If you want the golden glow of a tan without exposure to damaging UV radiation, consider using sunless tanning products or bronzers. Keep in mind, however, many of these products do not contain sunscreen and won't protect you from UV radiation

they are both bad!

Tanning beds are mostly UVA as opposed to UVB light. This is different than the rays that you get from the sun. The answer to your question is yes, certainly tanning beds do cause aging- in fact they do more damage to your skin than natural sunlight.
Tanning beds are associated with inducing aging changes in the skin and in promoting the development of skin cancer. This is because UVA penetrates the skin more deeply than UVB, and therefore causes damage on a deeper level. Most aging of skin is due to UVA rays destroying collagen and connective tissue beneath the superficial layer of the skin. UVB rays do not reach as far below the skin. Excessive exposure to UVA radiation will cause premature aging, including wrinkles, sunspots, and loss of skin elasticity.

Absolutely, and it can be even worse, because if you tan year round your skin can get triple the amount of damage that you would if you tanned during the summer only.
If you want to have a leathery, splotchy, wrinkled skin with cancerous lesions in your 40's just keep tanning. You may not care now, but I can guarantee you will regret it later, you will get older everyone does, but your skin will be much older than you are.

Any UV exposure will age you. Just as fast! In the tanning beds you can controll your UV exposure in the sun you cant. Either one isn't the best for your skin but it sure is relaxing to just lay out in the sun or tanning bed :]

It does damage your skin, because of the cells in your body that starts to loose it's elasticity as you age. Ageing skin also receives less blood flow and lower gland activity.

All UV rays damage your skin... Tanning Beds damage your skin even more because the rays are so close and in direct contact with your skin.

Yep. Its the same UVA and UVB rays, except more directly on your skin. it is very damaging. Just think, you can either have tan, wrinkly, and cancer-prone skin or you can have pale, smooth, and healthy skin. Your skin is amazing, pale or dark. Just take good care of it and it'll be good to you, even in your older years :)

Yes, the sun and tanning beds will age you!!! Now if you do the spray tan it will not age you. The spray is safer and better for you but you have to make sure it doesn't streak!
