I've seen them set up that way before....it's not garish.

no. My TV was all black for years, and I have a brown TV stand. Now I have a TV which has a black frame and the speakers and rest are silver, still looks good.

take the stand outside and spray paint it gloss black.

I don't think it really matters as long as you're happy with it.
