I live in New York City and have for the last six years - here's what I love about it:
New York is the best place for fantastic food - here are some of my favorite places:
Momofuku Ssam Bar - http://www.debonairmag.com/restaurant_review_-_momofuku_ss%E4m_bar.htm
Great Jones Cafe - http://www.debonairmag.com/restaurant_review_-_great_jones_caf%C3%A9.htm
Grey Dog's Coffee - http://www.debonairmag.com/restaurant_review_-_grey_dogs_coffee.htm
City Bakery - http://www.debonairmag.com/cheap_eats_-_the_best_new_york_bites.htm
I also think theater is a big part of the New York experience, but not as much Broadway as the Metropolitan Opera for me - incredible sets and much better voices than you'll see in the tourist-infested Times Square. It's cheaper, and a guaranteed world class experience. Between intermission get a glass of champagne and pretend to hobnob with the billionaires.

Then there's the parks - Central Park is pretty cool, though I'd say Bryant Park is better. Smack in the middle of the city it's right by the Main Library and has easy access to snacks and seating to watch the world go by. It also has free ice skating in the winter and free movies in the summer, not to mention a mini-library in the actual park where you can take out books to read on the very clean grass or gravel walkways. You'll feel like you're in Paris except surrounded by skyscrapers!

I work in NYC, so I'm here everyday!
One of my favorite things is Bryant Park, which is right behind the NY Public Library. Free movies in the Summer and ice skating in the Winter and right now the Craft Fair and Fashion Week in the Fall. I like grabbing a cupcake and coffee across the street at Crumbs and sitting on one of the benches reading and people watching. It's a little oasis in the middle of the city.

God there is so much. I lived in the area all my life. The museums are fantastic.. I love the theaters and comedy clubs too. There's always something to do. Bands are constantly playing.. there's opera.. the parks. There are a million bars and lounges to just sit back and relax with friends. And don't let me get started on the food. I also love just walking. It's great to be able to walk and not worry about cars.

I've been a few times--There's a great place my friend and I stumbled upon after going to the Met. Sant Ambroes on the UES Madison Avenue between 77 and 78. We loved their risotto and rocking desserts. Maxie's in Times Square is great for breakfast, but that's it. On another trip, we ate at Craft Bar 900 Broadway at 20th. It was easy to get into and delicious. We had veal meatballs, sea urchin spaghetti, parmesan fondu...everyone enjoyed everything

I have been there approx. 50 times. My fondest memories are clothes shoping with my parents and eating at fancy restaurants 30 years ago, visiting my sister who attended school and lived in NYC 20 years ago and most recently bus trips to the city and visiting Ground Zero and the nearby church, visiting South Street and China Town and pro baseball games.

I've been there about four times since 2002. I love it! I love the wonderful variety of places to eat (I'm vegan). I always eat well when I'm in NYC. I actually love the NYC subway--I'm weird, I know. And I have a sense of belonging there. I also like Washington Square Park.

My favorite thing in New York, Chicago and LA is that there is a Starbucks, a Ben and Jerry's and Subway every few blocks.

Just walking. Find a good neighborhood and walk. While you walk, window shop, people watch, take in the passing crowd. That's by far the best way to really get to know NYC! Fun too!
