I got my gorgeous cockatiel nearly a week ago. I spend alot of time with him as i dont work so it only him and me until my partner gets home from work. But recently i have noticed that when im in the same room he is quiet, but when i leave he starts chirping really loud and a couple times has actually tried to fly around in his cage.. When i come back into the room he is fine. What is he trying to tell me? Im new to this and im a lil worried that im stressing him out, and i dont want to do that at all. He is tame but i only get him out when my partner comes home, because "Show-off" gets cranky if knows he is going back in the cage and i need a lil help, lol. Can anybody help me?

I had a Cockatiel then got a second one. This is very normal. They are a flock bird and get lonley. in the wild they chirp at each other when the other birds are out of sight. I found having Two birds helps alot, they love being around people.

It is because you left the room.
My Cockatiel does that too, I just tell her I`ll be right back and she`s ok as long as I say hold on once or twice until I actually come back to the room. I also have to turn on Talk radio or the Tv for my bird or else she complains in her Cockatiel way.

well the bird is probably quite attached to you, so just leave the door open, then if it wants to be with you, it will fly from the cage, and come to you, this is what my sun conure does, so i hope this helps, if not, good luck

He's missing you! My tiel does that all the time....He's telling you that he doesn't want you to leave..and he wants you to stay and play with him. Careful about spoiling him though, because he'll learn to always freak out when you leave and that can stress him out when he's left alone.
