My parents keep asking me what I want for Christmas this year, so far I've asked for a few things, nothing real special. But now my cat is really sick. She's taking four medications, we're picking another medication up tomorrow, and we're giving her fluids through an IV, and she wont eat..in the past week, she has eaten twice! and she's been like this for almost two weeks, and has barely improved..if at all. My dad said if she doesn't get better in one more week, then we have to put her down, because I guess it means she has a bad disease, and it would cost way too much just to get the tests done to see what is wrong with her,and they might not be able to even tell what's wrong. She isn't very old, only five years. So I guess what I'm trying to ask is...is it wrong for me to throw out my Christmas list, and just ask them for a new cat? That is if she is put down, hopefully she wont have to, but things aren't looking very good at all. I feel horrible, I mean..she's part of our family

Cats, like people, die when its their time. I'm not a big fan of keeping a beloved pet alive when the quality of their life is so poor that they cannot enjoy the basics like eating. It sounds like you are doing all you can for your cat, and maybe putting her to sleep is the most humane thing to do. I believe animals go to heaven too, and perhaps this is her time.

I think asking for a new kitty for Christmas is about the best thing you could do. Make sure you get one from a shelter or a cat rescue where there are literally hundreds of cats looking for loving homes.

I'm sorry about your cat, we just had to put the family dog to sleep at age 16. Even then we felt horrible about it, but we know she isn't in pain, and can see again in her corner of heaven. Sometimes you just have to help them out. Best wishes.

Go back and try to exchange them. Probably someone else wanted a size 11 and was given a 10. You never know. I didn't want anything, but my husband wanted to give me a blackberry to replace my cell phone. It costs around $300, but I can't get it for another 3 months, because they contract expires then. Still, I don't really care. All I really wanted was to see my son and granddaughter over Christmas, but that didn't happen either.

I am wondering, if you do that, will the fact that you have another cat makes you feel better? If you do love the previous one with all your passion, then your affection and love just can't be simply transfered to another. Those memories just linger around you and won't leave straight away. And if you consider the new one as a substitute for your previous one, it would be unfair to her, don't you think so? So i think you should try your best to cure your beloved kitty, and if she doesn't make it throught, compose yourself down for some days, and then move on. Because your kitty will ask you "Don't cry because it ended, smile because it happened."

no i don't think its wrong, if thats the only thing you want, its somthing special thats very close to you, and you like you said its part of your family, so i would say go for it ask for a new cat, only if your other cat doesn't make it, but i hope she does. it seems like she means so much to you. i wish you the best of luck and hope your cats survives this year.

No that's not wrong, Its obvious that you are close to your cat and you enjoy the companionship. They can be expensive however, if you throw out everything else, you should be golden!

Sorry to hear about your cat:-(

Not at all. She wouldn't want you to be miserable. She'd probably feel proud that you loved her so much you just had to get another kitty.
I'm so sorry.
