There is an inverse relationship between level of education and being religious. Can't determine if education causes one to become less religious or if religious people don't go as far in school (generally)...

In my personal experience the more educated I got the more religious I got. I am a scientist and cannot deny the existence of God in my life and the world around us. I think it is easier today to be a nonbeliever and to speak out against God that it was a few hundred years ago so you believe that the more education you have the more movement away from God people get. What is really happening is people who deny the existence of God arrogantly do so (and quite vocally) and claim that they are so "educated" that they have no use for God. Typically I am not a "preachy" type and I steer clear of discussing these things and my own religious life (unless asked) with people in public so I do not mean to sound preachy here. I know many scientists who will not deny the existence of God, a higher power, or something larger than us.

First, all religions are not the same. God is not telling one man to blow himself up to reach Paradise, and another to meditate on his navel to attain his equivalent, and another to trust in his law keeping morality, and another to trust in the powers of his church and or his own merit to gain eternal life, while He calls others to humble themselves as lost and helpless sinners, and turn from sin in their heart directly to the son of God, who gave Himself for our sins and rise again, trusting in Him and His shed blood alone to redeem them.
2. The more Biblical Christian religion is then the more truly educated men will be. The vast majority of the first schools were started by Christians, and if you are all familiar with great evang. preachers such Spurgeon or J. Edwards, etc., you know they were great intellects. If you read the gospels you will see Jesus appealed to mens mind, logic and reason in examining the evidence He provided that justified a step of faith.
3. A Gov. cannot truly separate a belief system from an educational or legal system, as they both rely on moral values, and by supplanting the morality of the general Christan faith with secularism (under the pretext of the 1st Amendment), they are creating a nation of the most morally confused and Biblically illiterate children, and who overall are less able in the very basic than those schooled 100 years ago. But for more murderous and undisciplined,. Nations do not last long after that.
4. The reason many youth are becoming atheists is not only due to being taught the State religion of atheistic secularism, but the current worldly state of the evangelical church (the only one that really can offer the saving gospel). AND the fact that they are raised in affluence, which is always conducive to atheism, as well as eventually discontent, and anarchy.
"If truth be not diffused, error will be; if God and His Word are not known and received, the devil and his works will gain the ascendancy; if the evangelical volume does not reach every hamlet, the pages of a corrupt and licentious literature will; if the power of the Gospel is not felt throughout the length and breadth of the land, anarchy and misrule, degradation and misery, corruption and darkness, will reign without mitigation or end." - Daniel Webster

It would be helpful to know where the phrase "I'm not religious, but I 'm spiritual" comes from. At first reading, this phrase states that the person is neither, neither religious nor spiritual.
Better education has nothing to do with powerful or powerless religion. How much education is necessary to describe the color of God's eyes? None if there is no God and everything if there is. Science has its limits, and not everything we experience can be explained by what we see. What we see is the basis of all our education.
Where does spirit comes from? According to the bible, man is body, soul and spirit, and God is spirit. Can man be spiritual without God? Or can God exist without man? Education will not help you with the answer.
Answer: We have two belief systems based on observation and revelation. Education comes under observation and religion comes under revelation. No amount of observation will lead to God.

It is during college that people gain the knowledge of other guiding systems that are inherent in society, not just other religions. Some become existentialists, others Logicians and Analytic philosophers.
Little do they know that God cannot be known by logic alone. And since America is full of positivism, if one does not Perceive or sense God...he does not exist.
Although I have delved into many of the world's existing systems, I am proud to say that I am a Catholic Integral Existentialist, where I choose to believe in God and serve him with all my heart, body, and mind.

I have lived for 59 years and believe me education is not getting better and the people who are turning agnostic or atheist do so because they don't bother to study the word.

I don't think so necesarily. Both Galileo and Newton were scientists.
I think it is more a sign that religion has lost touch with the needs of its people.
Me, I blame FDR for having the govt take over the church's charity work.

I don't think that is correct. Even in ancient times (before the time scholars of schools existed), there are already people who do not believe in God....
The gist here is that people have their own thoughts, own sentiments, own faith... some choose not to believe in God, some choose to believe in something else...
I know a lot of educated people who are very spiritual and have close relationship with God. These people are lawyers, doctors, even philosophers. So no, education can be a factor that makes other not believe in God bu not generally...

i think people will be very surprised fifty years from now-and even more so one hundred years from now-man is growing up slowly and learning how to stand on his own two feet-the world is getting smaller and smaller and the more we learn about each other the less the differences will be-i expect that religion as we know it will play a very small part in that world
just my thoughts-smile and enjoy the night
