No food will help you lose weight unless it has negative calories and will absorb tissue once it is digested.
All foods have calories . Calories give you energy to function. The calories that are not used to help you stay active are then stored as fat for supposed later use. The trick is to consume less calories in a day than you use to perform everyday functions, thus forcing your body to turn that stored fat back into energy for you to burn.
Try to pick the foods with the least amount of calories per serving. For instance, one tablespoon of ice-cream has more calories than one tablespoon of corn. Now you could just eat less of the ice-cream until the calorie count was the same, but then you wouldn't be full and would have to eat more. Keep this in mind when you go to the grocery store. Also look at the serving size on label when comparing nutritional values.
You might want to look at the food pyramid also. Following a healthy diet still starts with this no matter what fad diet comes around.

THe thing about most of the diets going around today is that they promote weight loss, but not good health. But hey, if weight loss is your concern then go on slim fast, a carb free, or another highly processed diet. But if you care for your body at all: Stay away from fatty proteins such as roasted nuts. Do not eat simple carbs, and when you do eat carbs, make sure they are from whole grains. Get you sugars from fruitsadn other natural sources. Drinking lots of water is also highly reccommended. Also, doing simple cardio work or any exercize that will build muscle will help weight loss. The more muscle your body has, the more calories you burn just by living.

In my opinion, dieting is worthless. You can't change your own metabolism rate. HOWEVER you should eat healthy foods and exercise to maintain a HEALTHY weight.
I'm not sure specific foods, but you might lose weight by burning more calories than you take in. But make sure the consumed/burned calorie ratio isn't too large. You don't want to starve yourself!
The only reason I am against dieting is because I have the opposite problem: I need to GAIN weight. I am severely underweight. It sucks. More than you know.
Also: fats are NOT your enemy. Fat can be used for energy and generally helps your body function.

Stay away from all fried foods. The other thing that keeps weight on you are refined carbs. Refined carbs are white bread, refined sugar, white potatoes, white rice. If you switch to whole wheat bread, whole wheat pasta, sweet potatoes and brown rice, you'll see a big difference. You just really have to cut out fried food and sugary colar drinks too (that's refined sugar.) You don't say how old you are, but alcohol is another great big no no. It turns directly into sugar in your body.
Good luck.

I like to eat too much and I like proteins, so Atkins is ideal for me. It's really cool to pig out and drop the pounds. But Atkins is absolutely NOT tolerant to cheating. Eat just a few extra carbs and all that other stuff will turn to fat, too.
Of course, if you hate meat, cheese & stuff Atkins would not work at all.
