Well I think there will be alot of uppty types there. Not someplace the hip hoppers hang out.Probably some older women but I definately will have to be careful how much I have to drink that night. It covers my butt with about 2 inches to spare (small butt LOL).I just want to look s*xy without being too provocative.

Hey girl, if you got the legs and body, go for it! For an expensive restaurant, 9 inches should be ok. Good luck!
PS Plus the white formal blouse will definitely tone down the "maybe" too short mini.

This is how I gage short skirt length...
Stand up completely straight and tall, and put your arms down at your sides. Then, w/out moving your hands, lean over and take a look exactly where your fingertips touch the sides of your legs. -Anything shorter than that might be a little too overt for a classy establishment. Anything that is the same length as your fingertips -yet still above your knees will probably be fine for both an upscale event and comfortable enough for dancing. It is also usually a safe length if you have to lean down or squat slightly, but still -do it carefully!
I forget where I learned the arm test (possibly on "What Not to Wear" -The British version), but it has never failed for me -and I have 34 inch legs on a 5'2" body, so skirts ALWAYS seem too short on me @ first. But when I put my arms down, other people -and I- can see that the skirt is a perfectly decent length.

Tacky may not be in your vocabulary, but that is what everyone will think of you. If you want to look like a tramp, then go ahead and wear the skirt.
You must be awfully young, because a mature woman KNOWS that if she has a good body, being covered up some is a lot more sexy. Leave a little to the imagination.

it might cover you butt standing up, but does it cover it sitting down? if it does then you should be ok, i mean you dont want to be pulling down on it all the time, or have to worry if it will still be covering you when you stand up again. Also, Im a little confused with the miniskirt w button up, i feel like youre going for the sexy secretary look, but if the skirt is TOO short, it might look out of place. i think if your skirt is within the range of your palm (when you out your hands straight to your sides) it should be perfect, good luck.

ALL miniskirts are vulgar--regardless of how short they are. Why don't you leave something to the imagination and wear a skirt that hits you a few inches above the knee? There's a VERY fine line between classy and trashy...

Here's a hint I always go by: stand straight up, and put your arms down at your sides close to your body, with your hands resting on your thighs. Wherever the tips of your fingers end should be the shortest you're wearing your skirt. If you feel confident in it and think it's appropriate, go for it. As long as you're wearing a semi-conservative top and decent shoes (no hooker heels!) you'll be fine.

If you have the legs for it then it should be fine, just make sure that you are careful when you sit, keeps your knees together (act like you went to a Catholic finishing school) and don't bend over for anything.
Your plan to wear a formal blouse is a good one, it's tacky to show everything at once. It's sexy to show one good feature.

A skirt is too short when the world gets the same view as your gynecologist. Two inches past your butt seems too short in my mind, but then I'm old and not hip.

Before you go, put the skirt on, pick something off the floor, if your friend can see your knickers, it's too short for an upscale restaurant.
If you're knickers can't be seen and you have good legs and an outfit to match wear it. If you've got it, flaunt it!

Go for it! Don't worry about what those old people say (no offense to old people), just do it. If you still feel kind of uncomfy, wear some leggings that are cut off at the shin. That's cute, and it doesn't show as much skin.
Have fun!
(BTW, you are allowed to write SEXY)
