is it worth studying going to pharmacy school to get paid 100K starting? i am having trouble deciding between graduating with a bachelors in chemistry and immediately becoming a forensic scientist (earning 40-50K starting) OR studying an additional 4-6 years to become a pharmacist with a salary of atleast 100K starting? any advice, comments, suggestions is appreciated, i like both jobs but I am more intrigued by forensic science but i am hearing that the pay it terrible.

If you are right about forensic science being $40-50k starting, then that is comparable to any other entry level job you can get with a chemistry degree. I'm thinking it might pay a little less, since you would likely be working for the government. Whether $35-40k is terrible depends on your personal standards, but it is enough to rent an apartment and pay for food and a car loan, with some left for other expenses.

You should know that forensics isn't all about solving mysteries just like on TV and in movies. A friend of a friend got a job in forensics in Fresno after he graduated, and he found out that he would have to spend the first 2 years doing blood alcohol content tests only, before he could do anything different. He ended up leaving after a few months because it was too boring.

And with pharmacy, it is highly recommended that you work in a pharmacy as a pharm. tech, so that you can learn what the job is like and whether you actually want to make a career out of it.

My brother in law is a pharmacist - but his starting salary wasn't 100k.

part of it is what kind of pharmacy do you want to get into? Retail means nights and weekends, hospital pharmacy is really tough to get into.

Forensic science can be more of an 8 - 5 job.

Honestly, don't do it for the pay - because in the end, if you don't like what you're doing, it doesn't matter that you're being paid a million dollars -

You know, you could start as a forensic scientist and go to night school for pharmacy...a career isn't a once in a lifetime decision...

Where do you get that pharmacy school is another 4-6 years?

I have two friends that are in Pharm D programs right now, they both had undergrads in Chemistry, and their programs are 3 years long.

Pharmacy school is around $20K per year, so $60K for a $100K plus income, to me, is a good investment.

A forensic science PhD level, would take so long, and cost you so much money, it would take you forever just to pay back the loans.

Pharmacy is not an easy major. It is a 5 year program at UConn. I saw my pharm major friends usually studying their butts off while we were partying.
