Actually Joshot the 2nd amendment reads:
A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.
Why don't gun backers ever quote the whole 2nd Amendment? The reason that this was put into the Constitution was so that each state could create a militia to protect the nation. The federal military that we have today wasn't created until WWI. Before that each state was in charge with creating their own 'citizens' army. Ever wonder why in the Civil War each military unit was a state's unit? Today's National Guard is the decendent of this system.
So tell me, what is well regulated about the way we use guns in this country today? If I were in office my system would be to outlaw the distribution, sale and importation of handguns. That way we could slowly weed out the illegal guns on the street while the law abiding citizens that own their guns can keep them, they just cannot purchase more if theirs are used in a crime or stolen. This would only be for military style rifles and handguns. I would never go after hunting rifles and shotguns.
As for my home, I would not own a gun. The vast majority of gun deaths are caused by accidental shootings or crimes of passion. You and your family are far more likely to be killed by your gun then by a strangers.

No, I would not keep a gun in my home. I consider it too dangerous to keep in a household where nobody possesses the training or inclination to use it properly.
But I also recognize that a key aspect of protecting my family is that thieves don't know that I'm unarmed.
Guns affect our society in so many more ways than that. Gangs, criminals, law enforcement, security, and soldiers all use guns, and its difficult to say that none of those affect the average American.

They could cause instantaneous death. They give some people the sense of superiority over other people. which changes there behavior. They are more likely to confront other people in an aggressive manner Which they normal wouldn't.Even if you use a gun in self defense they are still going to arrest you and it will cost you about 100,000 dollars in legal fees. If they catch you with a gun on a place where they serve liquor you go to jail for ten years fed law. O J. Simpson accomplices where luck the D. A. wasn't on his toes because they serve liquor in that hotel. Friend of mine was pull over buy the police and he pulled into a 7-11 they sever liquor there so instead of misdemeanor it became a felony. when they found a concealed weapon .That was a sharp D. A. I was a gunnermate for four years in the military I know about weapons.

I do have several guns in my home from which I have been know to hunt from time to time. Also I believe in protecting my family from some deadbeat that wants my stuff or to do harm to my family. The question of how it affects the avg. american it brings enjoyment of hunting and peace of mind of protecting their family. BAD PEOPLE makes guns bad, guns simply does what the person, holding it, wants to do.

Gun in the home, they can take it when the pry it from my cold dead hands. The constitution gives us all the right to keep and bear arms. Think about that a sec. Conversly, there are more morons with guns than there are honest patriots.

guns affect our society in more ways then are metioned above although i dont see the point of not owning a gun for self defense. knowing that criminals use guns makes quite a bit of difference in society as that a criminal that may have been non violent before he had a gun may become violent or deadly when in possesion of a gun, teh same goes for some people that are not criminals. as for the average american it does make a difference to some more then others, out of my friends and coworkers there are only one or two that dont own at least one gun, the rest of us that do talk about hunting and even go out shooting in our off time together and a few of us do have our concealed weapon permits so we can carry our weapons although we dont usually we have them because the law in our state makes it illegal to have a gun with you unless you are going to or coming back from hunting, but our state also has a stand your ground self defense law that says in a situation that your life is in danger you may defend yourself to what ever means are nessecary so if i am walking down the street and tyrone comes up to me and has a gun and says hey man give me your wallet or i am going to shoot you i reach around like i am reaching for my wallet and draw my handgun from the holster on my belt and shoot him dead i then clear the weapon lock the slide back call the cops and wait for them to arrive they take my weapon for a few weeks then give it back to me after making sure it hasnt been used in any crimes. such a nice process. as i have stated yes i keep a gun in my house and i believe that more people should learn how to use and keep guns, my sister who is a librarian asked me to teach her how to use and clean a gun so that she can go about getting her concealed weapons permit in the future and the is the most pacifistic person i know but she feels the need to have somethign to protect her daughters lives in the event that something happens that would warrant the use of a gun. also if most people would follow th motto of there are only two people that need to know you are carrying a gun, you and the guy dead on the ground, then people wouldnt have such a problem with guns.
