I personally think it is a politcal issue. The people who are strong supporters of global warming tend to fall to the left. sure some conservatives say it is real but the vast majority are liberal. If it was science wouldn't both sides believe it. I mean many of the scientist say it is real are funded by liberal groups.

Political. Imagine if Pat Roberson and Newt Gingrich believed creation was real. Would Bob believe this was true? Somehow I doubt it.

People pick and choose who they want to believe. People who are of a collective mindset have a political leaning to the left. These people are more followers then leaders. They look to others for guidance.

People who are of the individual mindset think for them selfs. They look towards objective facts and don't follow others. These people have political leaning to the right.

Lisa, I am a Christian and I live in South MS so believe me I believe in global warming cause it is past warm here most of the year. I don't know much about it. I guess I'm not really an environmentalist other than I don't litter and I appreciate the beauty of nature. I have read a little on both sides of the fence as to global warming and some scientist say that it has been this hot before, that it comes in cycles and that it has not been as widely discussed in past times because of the lack of media coverage. That makes sense, but as I said, no one has to convince me that it's hot and getting hotter. Although, I must say, it was not as hot this summer as it was last summer. Also the fact that we had no hurricanes this year in the Gulf of Mexico leads me to believe that maybe there is some truth to the "it comes in cycles theory". I am no weather man though. In this day and time anything can be a political issue.

Global warming is a scientific issue. What we do about global warming is a political issue.

You might notice that all the global warming deniers claim that it's a political issue. Well, that's because they treat it as one. They don't understand the science and don't care about the science. But you can't come to an informed political opinion as to what we should do about global warming without first understanding the science.

Your second question is a good one though.

"If it was science wouldn't both sides believe it[?]"

You would think so, wouldn't you? Then again, a lot of conservatives don't believe the evolutionary theory, either.

Scientific. Many conservatives say it's real. It's not only that they say it's real. It's why they say it, because of the scientific proof. The quotes aren't important, except for their content. And the fact they put the lie to the idea that Al Gore is responsible for people's opinions.

Gingrich has a reputation as one of the smartest conservatives. And the New Republic is authoritative.

"Former Republican House Speaker Newt Gingrich challenged fellow conservatives to stop resisting scientific evidence of global warming"

"National Review (the most prestigious conservative magazine) published a cover story this past week calling on conservatives to shake off denial and get into the climate policy debate"

"Pat Robertson (very conservative Christian leader) 'It is getting hotter and the ice caps are melting and there is a build up of carbon dioxide in the air. We really need to do something on fossil fuels.”

"I believe there is now more than enough evidence of climate change to warrant an immediate and comprehensive - but considered - response. Anyone who disagrees is, in my view, still in denial."

Ford Motor Company CEO William Clay Ford, Jr.

"The science of global warming is clear. We know enough to act now. We must act now."

James Rogers, CEO of Charlotte-based Duke Energy.

"Republican governors team up against global warming"

"the overwhelming number of scientists now believe that there is significant human cause,'' Giuliani said, adding the debate on the existence of global warming "is almost unnecessary ... ''

"(from Republicans for Environmental Protection) The consensus of almost all climate scientists is that global warming is already happening, that human actions are causing it, and that it will cause major problems for our planet."

Honestly , do you think all world leaders are liberals? Or dumb? Most corporate leaders? Would they buy a thing because Al Gore says it?

Unfortunately, the Left has found a way to politicize the weather. Rain or shine, warm or cold, hurricane or wildfire, we evil people are to blame.

If it weren't frightening, it would be funny.

When you have self described Climatologists in this forum quoting career politicians on GW, you can bet the subject has become political.
