Could have been a reaction to a food or medicine you are not used to... We use benidril for itching. It is a cold med. but it works pretty good. I would use a skin softener also. Just in case your hunch is correct. Try some Avon skin so soft in a warm not hot bath. and then scrub the heck out of the tub or you will have a broken neck besides just itching.
good luck

It's winter...my skin does this too, the back of my thighs and legs get super itchy, my face is ultra dry too. I went to the doctor and he recommended Aveeno 'Skin Relief Moisturizing lotion' (with natural colloidal oatmeal)...it's delightful. I highly recommend it. It has a cooling mintyness to it.
Try this out. If you can't find Aveeno, get the Jergan's super dry skin 24 hour lotion. It doesn't smell and it's pretty good.
Trust me on this, I've got super super dry skin, I'm living right up near the arctic circle (-30C today!) and it's really really dry here.
If you have time, try an oatmeal bath...um...dump oatmeal in the tub and relax... it sounds yucky, but it worked with my chicken pox...it's relaxing. I think baking soda is the other option, but google that to double check.
Just make sure you put lotion on right as you get out of the shower. If you're shaving your legs, put conditioner on them, it's not as drying as soap! Good luck!

Drink water. In the winter months ,we loose more moisture.
so drink a couple extra glasses of H20
Take warm..not scalding showers.
Use moisturizers (lotions) with oatmeal in them IE. Aveeno.
Wear a base under your winter sweaters..IE. a camisole..
Most sweaters are made from, cotton, acrylic but some are made from wool,or angora which can be rough on allergy ,dry skin.

Yep...I have to start planning for this every year about this time. Jergens lotion for sensitive skin is great. Use it after you bathe. Also, Aveeno makes a "lotion" that you put on in the shower. I use both actually. Try to stay with sensitive skin lotions because they don't have perfume. The perfume actually causes more irritation.

Winter does make your skin dry. i suffer from eczema and it is embarrassing.I use Vaseline intensive care or st Ives lotion. I sometimes take a bath in a cap full of baby oil and then I apply the lotion for better protection. Try this for about a week and see how it works for you.

i have found that Ahava Dermud Dead Sea skin products are the best at relieving dry skin. Other dead sea products are not as concentrated as this brand. I have eczema so i have constant dry skin and this makes even my skin feel silky smooth.
Hydrocortizone such as Cortizone 10 may also help. GOOD LUCK

Immediately after showering, apply a good moisturizing lotion to your back and shoulders. The lotion should lock in the moisture from the shower and prevent them from drying out and itching during the day. Continue to do so over a few days, and the problem should subside.
A good moisturizing lotion should be rather thick in consistency. Cetaphil brand moisturizing lotion is particularily good.

It probably is because of winter. Try Artistry's soothing cream it works like a charm. It's actually guarenteed to work or they will refund all of your money. I can give you the direct link to read about it and even buy it if it sounds like what you'd be looking for

Eucerin makes insanely good, thick moisturizing cream for problems just like this. My dad used it on his face when he had the same problem. You can get it at any supermarket, drugstore, etc.
If this continues to be a problem, you may want to see a doctor. Good luck!
