Im attempting to build a budget Remington 700 long range rifle. Im doing this just to prove to someone that you can do sub moa for less than $500.00 ! I already have the rifle, just a standard 700ADL 24". I am tring to stay away from HS and Mc for the stock, while not even looking at the USS from Choate. Any ideas on a good bedded stock for less than $200.00 ?

I have also thought alot about optics as we all know, to make a thousand yard shot @ 10" we are going to need a good one. If anyone has any ideas on a budget scope out there that I may not be aware of Im all ears !

Remember guys, Im not doing this because Im broke, I know MC A5 & Leupold is my best bet, Im just tring to get it done at a normal cost. Thanks for the time and the feedback !

Boker, I searched the addy you gave and although it sounds like a plan, I dont see an ADL option on that sight.

I hope you didn't bet your friend any money. There are currently NO glass bedded stocks target stocks available that are "drop in" for under $200 that will fit an ADL Remington. I'm not trying to rain on your parade, but you are not going to build a "budget" sub-moa rifle for under $500, weather you start out with a Remington 700 ADL or some other brand for that matter. I have (5) Remington 700 Custom Built Target Rifles in 308 caliber, that all started with Remington 700 receivers and the cheapest one of the 5 that is a sub-moa rifle capable of 1000 yards shots cost well over $1600, before I even got to the Optic's.When it comes to building a rifle with the specifications you want there is no such thing as "normal" cost. As a Dealer, Gunsmith and a Long Range Competitor myself with 16+ years experience, I built my rifles by purchasing the components at Dealer cost and didn't pay retail for anything..Even with having the advantage to buy at Dealer prices there is no way possible I could build one that would be worth a hoot for the amount of money you are talking about, let alone be a sub-moa 1000 yard rifle....I would be very interested in what you wind up with as an end result......Good Luck

The cheapest way to make a 1000-yard shot is to walk the first 900 yards, then shoot.

Pompous wisdom aside, a cheap stock is just that, cheap. A drop-in might be okay for a foul-weather woodland sporter, but for long-range precision, a quality stock needs to be custom-fitted to the rifle. Whenever I tried to "improve" one of my guns on a budget, it was money down the drain.

How about a Boyds thumbhole stock and glass bed the action. Check out the Boyds Ross thumbhole here.
Decent price too, under budget.

Is your original stock wood? If so, why not bed the one you have?
