Im finishing up (on the last chapter now) the book "Possible Side Effects" by Augusten Burroughs. Its his lastest installment. You may be familiar with his book "Running with Scissors." It was made into a movie last year. Hes a wonderful author and has a great way of telling stories. Hes almost as brilliant as David Sedaris, but NEVER! :) I am getting ready to read Rue McClanahan's autobiography called "My First Five Husbands, and the ones who got away." You might recall her from Golden Girls. (She was Blanche) I recently finished up "The Glass Castle" by Jeanette Walls. WONDERFUL book about growing up in an bizare and abusive family who never seemed to grow roots. Mom and dad chose (after the kids left home) to live homeless. Its a great book! I recommend it.

"The Lovely Bones" by Alice Sebold. I decided some time ago that, since I've always loved reading but tended to read at random, I'd make a resolution to read the best books ever written. Google had many lists, so I went for the "Librarian's list of the best novels ever" and am reading through them. "The Lovely Bones" is number 21, and I'm really enjoying it. It is a different slant on what might happen after we die.

I've always got a book or two or three open that I read from time to time. Right now, there is Elizabeth George, "Playing for the Ashes", a murder mystery, "Chaos", by James Gleik, now that one I can only take in a little at a time, and "A Brief History in Time" by Steven Hawking. Another one I'm taking in little bits. I've got 2 by Laurie R King, the Mr and Mrs Sherlock Holmes series that I am anxious to read, and one waiting for me at the bookstore by Sarah Graves, her new one that I can't remember the name of, in the Home Repair is Homicide series. Of course there are two or three garden books that I just got and haven't really done anything more than glance at, and one in the bathroom on Ozark Folk tales, from the l940's. Whew! I'm exhausted! Oh yeah, and Rebecca Wells "Little Altars Everywhere", sort of the sequel of The Ya Ya Sisterhood.

Thanks everybody, now I have a whole bunch of new books to read!

Saturday
by Ian McEwan
Synopsis:In the middle of the night, Henry Perowne, a 48-year-old neurosurgeon, awakens for no apparent reason and sees what he thinks, at first, is a meteor, but the object brightens, moves faster, and blazes through the skies at low altitude--a plane on fire, approaching Heathrow. In intensely realized descriptions, Henry thinks about this dramatic event and reacts and shares the most intimate aspects of his existence, drawing the reader into his life. Every action, thought, and question about life, fate, and destiny is articulated as Henry struggles to make sense of this one day in his life and see it in a philosophical context
Very good read so far.

Free Fall by Fern Michaels. It's the last in a series about a group of women who justice failed, so they take matters into their own hands. Each book deals with a member of the group getting her revenge. Being the last book, it's been really good so far.

There are four of us reading the series, so we pass the books around. The last one to get them is my daughter-in-law over in Germany!

Lillian Jackson Braun's The Cat Who Went Bananas and it is a bit better than I expected. I hadn't read any of The Cat Who books until this one. It was a gift from a granddaughter. Not one I'd have purchased or taken from the library but I'm enjoying it.

The Publishing Game by Fern Reiss. It's for a homework assignment. It's pretty good, not what I'd like to be reading at the moment, but good nonetheless.

The Celts Life, Myth and Art by Juliette Wood. I love anything about the Ancient Celts and it's very interesting, not to mention the art work is beautiful.
