Firstly, make sure you have enough money for racesuit n helmet, shoes etc, budget about $6000. Ring your local motorsport organisation, like cams etc. They can direct you to the rite person. Try karting first, to get the feel for racing, best way to learn bout car set up and driving. If your too old or too big/tall for that try a state championship. They have different categories for saloon cars, hq holdens, formula Vee, formula Ford and are raced on tracks within the state you live in. You dont need much of a budget to get into that. There are actually alot of people who start in state championships which go to top line or near topline racing. It depends on where you live. I pitcrew in sydney, so i can direct you in syd, but if overseas/interstate, I dont know much over there

Start with Skip Barber's 3 Day Miata Racing School. Then you can race in the spec Miata series in the SCCA and work your way up the closed-wheel ladder.

Just to skip the school bit, if you are in Europe, try one make racing, particularly the big name series such as the SEAT Cup - a lot of BTCC drivers graduated from series like these, plus it will suit BTCC well since a large portion of cars in the series are FWD
