My father and brother are diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, and a sister suffers from schizoaffective disorder.
My father and sister have similar behaviors that doesn't seem to be treated by their medication: a lack of concern for others- they are selfish, cruel, demanding, manipulative, dominating, and prone to physical violence when they don't get what they want. They revise the truth when they are caught doing wrong, never accept blame, and will try to get away with just about anything.
That isn't from schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder is it?- Are they some kind of sociopaths? My brother is a sweetheart when he's on his meds- his personality changes once he no longer feels threatened; but even on meds, my father and sister just as selfish and mean. Why?
An example- my sister hit another sister, 6 mos. pregnant, in the face with a hard soled shoe. She claimed that she did it because my other sister was kicking her- a lie. She just didn't want to share the couch.

Neither wants to take their medication- My mother refuses to take any action, and in fact excuses and defends my sister's and my father's behavior. I feel I need to get out of here and away from all of my relatives.

Yes, what you describe can be untreated or badly treated schizophrenia symptoms. Talk to your mother if she is around about having your family members treatment plan re-evaluated. If your mom is not in the picture - call social services and ask them for help intervening on your behalf.

Maybe the medication your father and sister are on isn't really working for them. It can vary between people which medication works best, even if they have the same illness. Sometimes no medication seems to work, especially with schizophrenia. And then there is of course also the chance that they are not taking their medicines in the first place. That is something that needs to be surveilled all the time.

I suggest you or someone else in the family talk to their doctors and check if some other medication might work better.

I'm a paranoid Schizophrenic and I'm not on meds. I must be a lightweight. I am not violent nor do I practice violence. But I'm negative about everything and that comes from the disease. I've never been suicidal. But I have a very dim outlook on my body and lifestyle. I hate myself and I've burned myself with thousands of cigarette burns. But that was 4 years ago since I smoked. But I made myself Ugly And I don't care. I don't drink, I don't take drugs. I never see a doctor. I refuse to. In other words Life sucks and then Ya die.

My 29 year-old brother is also a paranoid schizophrenic, or so he claims anyway, and when ever he does not feel like going to work he just won't go in. He stays locked up in his bedroom and refusing to come out. When he gets like this he refuses to do anything but play video games. He also cusses people out and physically tries to starts fights with people. The sad part about this is he gets by with it.

In my little brother's case, I call it "Refusing to grow up and start acting his age instead of his shoe size." Nothing else, especially since he has it in his head "I can do what I want to do and no one has the right to tell me what to do."

Completely detach yourself from the situation and leave home as soon as possible. These people are stopping you from living your life.
My parents were psychotic, gave me brain damage and I ended up having a stroke to top it off, landed in a wheelchair for 2 years and I STILL cant walk properly.
Keep away from violent people, no matter WHO they are.
Dont let this happen to you.
Take care

sounds like emotional immaturity or in other words the maturity of a child. My sister has a mental disorder and this is what the doctor told our family. I think it's a side-effect/symptom

I think every medication works differently with people. I'm epileptic and what works for me dosent work for others n vice versa. Talk to your doctor about that. Hope this helps
