yes. when your religious, you have the comfort of God.
but when you do not, you are only happy when good things happen.
in history, many societies use religion to prevent the poor from rousing up. having a religion allows the poor to not complain as much because they know, as long as they're good, they will prosper in the future.
if there was no religion, there is no future hope when something bad happens, and therefore the poor would have caused more revolutions and your history grade would be an F because you cannot remember so many different revolutions.
point is, no religion = more sad when something does not go your way

This really depends on the person.
I'm an atheist and I've had a chronic illness for nearly 4 years. The only time I was depressed and sad was when I had to wait over a year for someone to figure out what was actually wrong. Once I was diagnosed and could work on improving my situation at least a bit, I was no longer depressed. People have told me that no one can successfully battle chronic illness without religion, but I'm one person that has proved that's not always correct.
However, some people really need a higher power to keep themselves happy and able to get through hard times. To each their own.

Change the way you ask the question to "Are religious people happier than non-religious people? Either way it would depend on whether the person answering the question was religious or not. As a religious person myself, I cannot see how anyone can be happy without religion in their life. But I have non-religious friends who ARE happy so go figure.

Happy or sad has nothing to do with religeousness. I know equal enough amounts of both on either side of that fence. Some religeons do actively pursue people with anxieties, fears and unhappiness and give them a false sense of security and hope and do make them temporarily less sad, but in a general long term sense, people find their own happiness, or dwell on the sadness regardless of whether or not they are religeous.

Happy people are more content and secure with their situation in life, regardless of their religious beliefs or lack thereof. Happy people have figured out how to get what they want or need out of life, and are content with what they have now.

I doubt that very much. Happy people in general have something to be happy about. Whether it be there job or there family.
Most humans are generally happy, otherwise what's life really about. Sad people are and can be happy, they just have a off day,and prefer to take some time out.
We all have moments, it has nothing to do with religion, believe me. Sadness happens to all whether we want it or not.
Its a human feeling like our five senses.

I couldn't say. I know a lot of people who rely on their faith for happiness, but I'm the opposite.
I was very unhappy with religion, and have never been happier than I am now as an atheist.

Ummm....I think you want to rephrase that question. If you are a happy person you are by definition more "everything" than you are sad. Maybe I'm not understanding this question because lots of people are answering it so it must make sense to some. Sorry I didn't add much.

I would say certainly. No matter what religion one chooses, the belief of a higher being humbles one and gives a person a better attitude toward others and oneself. Not to mix politics with religion but if you notice, liberals are always saying how bad things are and conservatives say how good things are. Is it half full or half empty?

not really,in the bible Jesus went to eat at the tax collectors house and his disciples asked him why and he answered"do you send a doctor to some one who is well or to some one sick"the meaning of this is that the disciples were good people and the tax people were greedy and bad this is why he went to make them change there ways, the answer then must for me to be this most people who are happy have already turned to God,but when sad people are lonely, hurt or upset even over a lost one they are more likely to turn to God in times of trouble instead of times of joy,but this dosen't mean a sad person is more religous than the happy ones it just mean at that time God is needed by them more for comfort, protection, love or just a big mental cuddle or someone who listens and not laughs
