So we just got our puppy a few days ago from a local shelter, and he has had his first set of shots, but today when I got home he was lethargic, and when I went to feed him he was not interested in his food. I cuddled with him for a while, and the tried again, still not interested. Then he threw up on the floor! He tummy started spasming and he threw up white yellowish mucus. Please help! I'm taking the day off tomorrow to bring him to the vet, but I need some sort of idea what he has before I freak out. We have only had him a few days, but I'm already attached bc he's such a sweet and good dog.

#1 cause of stomach problems in dogs is "dietary indiscretion" :) meaning that they probably ate something they shouldn't have.

Check around his area to see if there is anything he did get into, or could have gotten into.

If he's not better in the same day, take him to the vet, since you're not familiar with his little puppy signals yet.

I think getting your new puppy to the vet as soon as possible is the best thing. Since it has been a few days since he was vaccinated, it probably isn't from that. Other things that can cause a puppy to vomit is getting into things causing stomach upset. A more serious condition is Parvo caused by a virus. This can be extremely serious. Diarrhea also accompanies the vomiting usually and can be quite bloody. Dehydration can be a real problem too any time a puppy continues to vomit and/or has diarrhea. See a vet soon and good luck. I hope it is nothing but a little tummy ache.

You can try pedialyte but he may not be able to hold fluids down if he is vomiting alot. Another concern would be hypoglycemia as a result of not eating. Watch for shaking because they can seizure as a result. You can try some chicken flavored baby food if he is able to hold it down. Nutrical works good (high calorie supplement) but have to get from a vet. Can rub Kayro syrup on gums if shaking due to low blood sugar. Hope this helps.

Don't worry until you get to the vet....you'll be worried all night over fear of not knowing, put it into the hands of the Almighty, keep comforting him, and morning will be here soon. Then the vet will give you all the right advice and meds puppy needs. You don't need any idea of what he has, that's for the vet to figure out, your job is to get him to the vet and tell the vet what his symptoms are, try not to freak. I know it's hard when you think something so small and totally reliant on you is suffering, but you are doing the right thing by taking him to the vet asap. If you think puppy is in immediate need of a vet, there's probably an emergency animal hospital in your area, take him there tonight if you think he is that bad off, otherwise, keep your appt tomorrow, and just keep loving him. I'm sure that's of great comfort to him now...........Good Luck, I hope puppy feels better soon.

make sure he's gettign water down at least . If he won't drink I wouldn't wait until tommorow to take him.
The Yellow vomit is from an empty stomache.
Thsi not eating and being lethargic can be a number of things but as usuall parvo is always the first thought. Pups go very quickly from this so I wouldn't wait I wuld take him tonight.
If you can't get there tonight force fluids down him every 1/2 hour. This will hopefully prevent hin from dehydrating to bad.
I hope it isn't parvo and just a little virus or something.
Parvo takes 7-10 days to show symptome and good chance he was exposed before getting his shot.

I really don't know honestly, I am glad that you're taking him to the vet first thing in the morning, but he might be dehydrated. Try force-feeding him Pedia-lite or gatorade (turkey basters work really great for such an endeavor). Hopefully he doesn't have anything really bad like Parvo, but as long as he stays hydrated until you can get him to a vet, the more chance he has. Food isn't nearly as crucial right now though as hydration. Try to make sure he gets down a good mix of electrolites (pedialite) and water. Good luck!

If he/she is a new puppy it may have a small sickness. It may not be major. I would paniac too but call the shelter first to see if they say anything about the puppy having a small sickness. Also he/she may not like the food that you are trying to give them, your puppy may not like it. I have a beagle i get worried about him too. The more you worry the more your gonna get scared and upset[i have noticed]. So stay calm take your puppy to the vet or ask somebody around your neighborhood if they have had the same kind of experience. Stay POSITIVE and everything will go well =]
I hope this helps you! Best of Luck To You and Your Puppy=]
Hope he/she feels much better!!!! <3333.

May be anything from worms to parvo. A trip to the vet is urgent should a distinctly odiforus diarrhea appear. Keep an eye on him, and if at all possible, take his temp rectally. If it is above 101-102.5, get him to a vet ASAP. Good luck.

ADDED: Gatorade is too high in sugar and salt. Pedialyte or water only.

I would call the shelter where you got him and maybe they will have their vet look at him for free of charge since you have only had him a few days. he might have caught something from there. Good luck.

He might have had a reaction to the shots. That can cause fever, achy muscles, lethargy, and just feeling kinda crumby. It's good that you're taking him to the vet tomorrow. That's what he needs.

Yes, Gatoraid or Pedialyte is good. If he won't drink it take a turkey baster and use that to dribble it into his mouth. You might want to get him into a vet right now, though. If it's Parvo the odds of a puppy surviving aren't good even in a vet's clinic -- they're worse outside of it. I lost a puppy to parvo last year and it broke my heart.
