If we watch the evening news it is very easy to lose faith in our
world... in humankind.

How reassuring to hear how one simple act of kindness CAN make a
difference in someone's life!

Very touching. Get your tissues ready!

This is one of the kindest things I've ever experienced. I have no
way to know who sent it, but there is a kind soul working in the postal
system.

Our 14 year old dog, Abbey, died last month. The day after she died,
My 4 year old daughter Meredith was crying and talking about how much she
missed Abbey. She asked if we could write a letter to God so that when
Abbey got to heaven, God would recognize her. I told her that I thought we
could so she dictated these words:
Dear God,

Will you please take care of my dog? She died yesterday and is with
you in heaven. I miss her very much. I am happy that you let me have her as
my dog even though she got sick.

I hope you will play with her.She likes to play with balls and to
swim. I am sending a picture of her so when you see her. You will know that
she is my dog. I really miss her.

Love, Meredith.

We put the letter in an envelope with a picture of Abbey and
Meredith and addressed it to God/Heaven. We put our return address on it.
Then Meredith pasted several stamps on the front of the envelope because
she said it would take lots of stamps to get the letter all the way to
heaven. That afternoon she dropped it into the letter box at the post
office. A few days later, she asked if God had gotten the letter yet. I
told her that I thought He had.

Yesterday, there was a package wrapped in gold paper on our front
porch addressed, "To Meredith," in an unfamiliar hand. Meredith opened it.
Inside was a book by Mr. Rogers called,"When a Pet Dies." Taped to the
Inside front cover was the letter we had written to God in its opened

Note:

Dear Meredith,
Abbey arrived safely in heaven.

Having the picture was a big help. I recognized Abbey right away.

Abbey isn't sick anymore. Her spirit is here with me just like it
stays in your heart. Abbey loved being your dog. Since we don't need our
bodies in heaven, I don't have any pockets to keep your picture in, so I am
sending it back to you in this little book for you to keep and have
something to remember Abbey by.

Thank you for the beautiful letter and thank your mother for helping
you write it and sending it to me. What a wonderful mother you have. I
picked her especially for you.

I send my blessings every day and remember that I love you very
much.

By the way, I am wherever there is love.

Love,
God

I love kids,
I love them so much, I can't make myself lie to them.

It is a cute story and could almost sound harmless, but never the less, it is a beginning of teaching how to lie.

God only gave souls to human beings, and it is our souls that goes to heaven, hence no dogs, no cats, no angels can get saved..

We can come up with explanations and excuses for telling "white lies" but it is a mudslide, where does it end? When does a white lie turn grey or black....how to tech the little ones the difference

To God, a lie is a lie and we are commanded to speak the truth, let your yes be yes, and your no be no..it should not be a surprise what God thinks about lies and where it leads...

Satan is a master in lies, and by following his example, we not only go against God's will, we directly follow in the footsteps of Satan

Going to the bank and steal $100.000 is stealing, going to a candy store and take a lollipop without paying......is also stealing.

Even though it looks innocent it is dangerous, when Satan operates he does it in disguise, no red signs or bells telling/warning....that is why we must guard us against his schemes. (Eph. 6:11-18)

Love your kids, love them the right way, love them so much you want to show them God's way.

I understand the motive of protecting a child from a loss, but if they can't trust us to tell the truth in such a emotional/vulnerable how can they trust us at all.

We often hurt more for our kids, than they hurt for themselves

How Wonderful! It is nice to know there are good people in this world. I just lost my 11 year old dog this summer. I am in my 30's and prayed to God just like what your daughter wrote to Him. What a great response that was sent back! I am sorry for your families lose. You are a good mom, I hope to be too.

Faith in the goodness of man? Nice story, but too much of a rarity. Are you getting a new dog? The pound or another rescue shelter is full of them that need your daughter's love.

One, you posted part of this often forwarded email twice.

Two, even if that story was true, which has yet to be proven, it would only show that there is someone very nice at the post office who decided to illegally open mail not addressed to them and forge a letter for a kid.

So no, it doesn't restore my faith in your god.

It's a nice story, but remember that it was the act of an individual that comforted your daughter, not of a god.

If the item had been left to a god without the intervention of anyone else, it would have stayed there. The man who wrote to your daughter did a very nice thing, but I can't see it as evidence of the supernatural or an indicator that faith is a good idea. It may also be harder for her later on to accept the finality of death.

Priceless! Nothing is more dear to God's heart than a child!
God Bless you both!

How sweet. I have always viewed life through the kindness of strangers. It's a lot better then the evening news. (It does restore my faith in people)

I am smiling knowing good people at the post office care enough to respond to your daughter.
