If God wanted his name to be used why would he allow the correct pronounciation be lost?

This question is mainly for Jehovah Witnesses. I have asked my bible instuctor and she told me that it has not been totally lost and Jehovah is the closets pronounciation. I was not satisfied with the answer she gave me. I have two young children of my own and I want them to know my name. Wouldn't I make sure that they no how to properly pronounce my name if it was so important to me?

My neighbor's kids, when they first started talking called me

"Tear Tear", because they couldn't pronounce my name.

When I went over, and they came running up saying "Tear Tear" I was deeply touched and remember it to this day.

To translating the name YHWH as Yahweh or Jehovah is better than using the title LORD.

How would you feel if they took Jesus' name out of the bible and replaced it with the title ANOINTED ONE.

With the footnote reading:

"Since we don't know which name Jesus really used, nor the correct pronuncation of the name he prefered (this is a true statement) we have decided to replace Jesus' name with a title. We are using ANOINTED ONE so as to not confuse which Lord we are talking about."

It is not the pronuncation that is important, it is that we use the personal name of God, and not a title.

Ex 3:15 Then God said once more to Moses:

“This is what you are to say to the sons of Israel, ‘Jehovah the God of YOUR forefathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob, has sent me to YOU.’ This is my name to time indefinite, and this is the memorial of me to generation after generation.

Ever culture has a different way of pronouncing it and if you only open up the question for Jehovah witness then you are limiting yourself. The Abrahamic faiths are by far the most widespread but who's to say that God which comes from the Germanic word "god" is relevant with Abrahamic faiths? Americans and in particular Europeans really know how to corrupt things. Ok ok, So we have Jehovah(?) Yahweh(YHWH) Hebrew, and Allah (Arabic) which is derived from Illa ha which means "The Deity". Those are your main choices when you talk about that region, and there are other but those are the main. Anything coming from Latin is a corruption most likely, because Hebrews(later Jews) native language had nothing to do with the Latin tongue. Now Aramaic is the tongue Jesus spoke which is really a group of Semetic languages rather than one, but this still excludes Jehovah and the word "god" or any thing Latin or German. What a minute Jesus is latin...

Considering all the different languages in the world there must be a translation of names into a pronunciation that is recognizable in the language.

Jehovah is the common English pronunciation.

To God it is less important that we say it exactly right than that we understand it's meaning and it's importance. And that we understand the distinction between the ONLY TRUE GOD and all the other false gods that the world worships.

Using the name Jehovah shows Him that we understand it's importance.

Keep in mind, too, that Jehovah is not the only Bible name that has been translated and 'changed' due to the language.

Jesus wasn't really "Jesus" in the 1st century... and in the languages of the day, either.

The correct pronunciation of God’s name (YHWH/JHVH) will be revealed in the future. He allowed bad things and suffering to happen now, and he even allowed the correct pronunciation of his name to be unknown for now. But when a sick child called to his parent, and even if that child can’t pronounce the name of his parents, the parent still hears, the parent still responds.

Notice though that the name “Jesus” is not the original pronunciation. That is English, the pronunciation and spelling is different in Greek and Hebrew. But even if we don’t use the exact pronunciation of Jesus’ name, we still know that Jesus responds. It is still very important to know Jesus and his Father, Jehovah, even if the pronunciation that we call them is not exact.

You have to be realistic. God has many names in the Bible.

The word God in the Bible is typically translated from Elohim.
The word Lord in the Bible is typically translated from Yahweh (Jehovah).

What about Jehovah-Jireh and others?

The truth is that we do not speak Hebrew, and even if we did, like you said our pronunciation may not be correct.

Remember, on earth it is not the forms we use that please God. What pleases Him is when we worship Him in Truth and Spirit. That is what you should demonstrate for your children.

I (am a Mormon) believe that God has many names, in order that we keep them sacred and remember that the name of God is special.

Why did it become lost? I don't know for sure...I have theories...language has evolved over the millenia and so pronounciation also. I personally don't believe that God is so concerned with "What" we call Him, so long that we do call upon him.

Regardless, It was said in ancient times that to know the name of a god or a devil, you would have control over that spiritual entity. That is why when Moses asked "What is your name?" God's answer was "I am that I am." God instructed us on how he wants to be addressed. God, Lord, Father, etc....

Do not worry over the true name of God. But if you still need to know....

Does it matter how its known today if its acceptable to him after all Jesus was not how Jesus name was pronounced in hebrew times but was Jeshua or I-esous in greek. Do we change his name to be more accurate or accept that is the common understanding for our day to call him Jesus.

Why would it matter how God's name should be pronounced? Isn't it more important to worry about different things besides pronunciation? This is exactly why there are terrorists- they are fighting about who should continue Mohammed's religion, while actually they should be learning about what Mohammed really wanted them to learn. I guess in the end, there are still people who don't get the true meaning of things. You shouldn't be worried about how to pronounce God's name as much as you should worry about how you should teach your children the values that God wanted us to learn.
