how bout some bait that you and the catfish can both enjoy. Go to a grocery store, get the cheapest white bread, the cheapest peanut butter, and if you dont have running water at home, get a half liter of water. get a plastic container with a top you can take to the lake/river with you. mix the peanut butter, bread, and water together and mix with both hands. The key is to not add too much water, like my man emeril says, you can always add water, you cant take it away. I live in San Diego, California, this bait has worked better than chicken livers and prawns over in the local lake. As far as gear is concerned i used 12lb and 8 lb test, and a size 6 treble tied directly on the line.

Here is one that you probably never heard of and after this will most likely never hear of again. My grandfather set trot lines out in a river in Iowa, fishing for catfish. He made a bait using Ivory Soap flakes as it's base. I was told the soap flakes made the bait float, gave a sent and made it last all night. What ever else he mixed in I have no idea, but when I fished with him in later years for cats, chicken livers and garlic were always around.

Catfish and panfish are very fond of canned sweet corn. Impale the kernels on a hook until the hook is covered and get ready to reel them in. Works every time for me! If you have any pumpkin seeds left over from your halloween pumpkin, put them in a jar for a day or two with water and a few drop of maple syrup. They love those, too. To cook them, soak in milk for an hour, then roll the filets in olive oil, garlic, dill and breadcrumbs, corn meal or flour and bake in the oven on a smooth maple plank oiled with olive oil. MMMMM!

I heard you can take beef liver and soak it overnight in strawberry preserves and they guaranteed it would really catch great catfish. There is also a soap. If you go to a Mexican store, they will know. It has to be pink. I can't remember the name . The name has 4 letters in it. I am so sorry that I can't remember the name. It is ZOOT or something like it. Hope you find it.

i found that a cube of spam works realy well. a slice of mackrel or a very large lob worm. but i dont know if cat fish are the same every where? I'm in Britain and we have a wells catfish. there are lots of them in my local river. what ever you use make sure you sink the hook well into the bait. they do love to suck around at it for a while.

I've seen commerical fisherman down in So. Florida use nothing but Ivory soap. They said it is cheap and works great. They had it cut up in 3/4" squares. Give it a try, one bar is less than 50 cents

Tie your bait ( I use fresh chicken livers, rooster livers work best) up in a piece of cut up panty hose. Live bream works best for jug fishing or trot lines if legal in your state.
