if she is a non Japanese citizen, she may NOT work off base except as an ESL teacher. the banks on base are American and are staffed by SOFA sponsored individuals only.

Everyone's told you the basic details, that the banks are contracted out, etc. Atsugi is close to Zama but I don't know if there's a bank there on base or not. Torrii Station is close to Kadena AB.

1 problem you might have is your car. If it was made after March 76, there might be an issue. For Japan, you can get a waiver and possible ship (DoD would pay for it). However if you're going to Okinawa you got a problem and will not be able to ship your car/truck. Check ahead with your personal property shipment office.

Navy Federal Credit Union, does have branches in many overseas locations, including Japan. Some bases will have their own banks, for example Camp Zama does have a Community Bank on the base. so she shouldn't have a problem getting a job if she wishs. Also she can look into banks like Citi Bank who are worldwide although they will be off base.

Yes, when I left Japan in 1995, Nations Bank (now Bof A) had the military contract and branches on most bases. There are also Credit Unions and these institutions are always looking for qualified banking personnel. I beleive that Bank of America Military Banking still has the overseas contracts. You can access BofA on the web and check. I am a retired sailor that was stationed on the USS Belleau Wood out of Sasebo Japan and began every cruise in Okinawa to load our Marines.

In my experience, most dependents who want to work can find a job on base. She cannot work off base.

I was stationed in Yokosuka for 2 years. Camp Zama would be much, much nicer than Okinawa.

********Yokota Air Base, Atsugi Naval Air Station and Yokosuka Naval Station are all in the approximate area.
