The bi-partisan SAVE Act (H.R. 4088) with 112 co-sponsors in the House is enjoying so much broad bipartisan support, that House Speaker Pelosi may feel pressured enough to allow it to come to a vote after Congress returns in January. With a similar version just introduced in the Senate, this bill to severely limit illegal immigration may be Congress's best chance to achieve substantial immigration reform with this Congress. The link to the bill is below, please read it before commenting so you can at least form an intelligent response.

I think it's a good start. I think its real power though, will not be in the teeth of the legislation but in the psychological power. Once the fake docs quit working, a large percentage of illegals will self deport.

It provides manpower and equipment to secure the border, it requires documentation be cross-checked for employment, and key to this voter from the land of Obama & Durbin's sanctuary state, it prohibits states from making it illegal to follow the law.

I like that it's starting to look at birth/death record fraud, and sends SS no-matches to D of Homeland Security. And it makes it illegal to aid & abet a known illegal.

It needs to go further - requiring valid US id to cash aid checks, live in subsidizied housing, etc, but it's a great start.

A little disappointing. The SSA only has to notify employers once per YEAR about SS# discrepancies? Even then all the employer has to do is correct the discrepancy or fire the employee.... seems an illegal could just jump from job to job every year or so and be okay (or work under the table).

A lot of the Bill is about border security. I would rather see A LOT more on workplace enforcement, monitoring social services, and cutting off of federal funding to sanctuary cities.

I did like the bit about not deducting wages paid to an illegal from the profit of the company... this way employers will risk being hit by the IRS for back taxes (or tax evasion) if they regularly hire illegals and write off the wages.

I have been watching this since it was first introduced and I hope it does pass as is without anything added to it. I think this will be a great start to help curb the illegal immigration problem. Call your senators and get them to support H.R.4088. I have included a site that shows who has voted for it. Check it out.

The devil is in the details... is this electronic system reliable? What if it mismatches someone due to identity theft? What recourse will someone have if they are denied a job wrongly?

This could be a repeat of the whole no-fly list business.

If the bill isn't "watered down" then it is a starting point.
