You as the final car in the chain might be responsible for the causing the accident, however, each car struck can only put in a claim against the car that struck him. They can only go after you if it's taken to a civil level and they pursue you for negligence.
In a situation like that (which I sat in as a juror once until EVERYBODY just settled) everybody sues everybody else AND you.

Several years ago, I was involved in a collision.
One car was approching a line of cars stopped at a light. He was driving too fast and hit the last car in line. That car hit the one in front of him and That car bumped the next one, up, in line, and THAT car bumped me.
I did not bump the car in front of me, and I was the only one of the involved drivers that did NOT get a ticket. Even though the approaching car caused the collision, all of the other driver's were cited for stopping too close to the vehicles in front of them.

That's 2 separate accidents. Car number 1 rear-ends car #2, car #2 rear-ends car #3. Both drivers of cars #1 and #2 are at fault for not maintaining a safe distance in front of them.

Believe it or not, you are responsible for the car you hit. That car is responsible for the next car if the driver was in it. If it was parked, you get tagged for both. The theory is, the driver you hit was in control of the vehicle and should have avoided the car in front of him and if he hit the next car was too close to begin with. Insurance adjusters determine fault. Never admit it. Look here.

You are responsible for all of it. Your car the car in front of you and the one in front of them. The whole thing happened because of your actions. Even if your car never touched the car in front.
