In this section alone there are a large number of people who bully and put down other for their beliefs, while even more point the finger at someone else for the problems and wrongs in the world. There also seems to be in this section hatred venom and malice in over half of the questions and close to that of the answers given to questions. There also appear to be people who go out of their way to put down and criticize others in their answers to questions that would have very little to do with them personally.
To be clear here, these people come from both sides of the tracks and from what appears to be all walks of life and all religious and social backgrounds.
Is all of this hatred and animosity really needed, why? What do these people get out of this extremely anti-social behaviour?
Please note: answers of an accusing nature (to anyone) or answers that have nothing to do with the topic at hand will not be considered, please exercise restraint in your responses.
Thanks.

A question for Sapient:
It may happen everywhere, but why should it be accepted as normal and/or even encouraged by the inaction of others?

The most likely reason is that religion helps people deal with their deepest held anxieties: those of death, meaning, and help in times of powerlessness. If those beliefs are challenged, then someone risks losing the support faith brings them.
If you want to bring about peace, it's necessary to give people the opportunity to maintain their beliefs, but with just enough doubt to allow others to have their beliefs as well. This is less about being right than about being able to co-exist.

Wow, you are absolutely right! No where else in the world do you find people who carry on about religion and attack each other! Except at the beginning of almost every war ever fought. And when I go to the movies and Christians are boycotting another movie. Or when no one can decorate the way they want for holidays because they'll be attacked or sued for it. Or when religion tries to make my kids learn about fairy tales as facts in school. Oh and of course there are all those people who have been murdered throughout history for not believing one Tyrants god or another. Hey, wait a minute!!!??? This happens everywhere. WAKE UP DUDE!

If you don't like it, I hear the Pets section is all warm and fuzzy.
I think you will find, and most people agree, that religion is the most volatile of discussion subjects, that and politics.
II can only assume from the curt way you have of posting, that this forum is not for you.

This is why most wars are based on religion. People just do not respect other peoples beliefs like they should.

Well the truth is, religion and politics are two things you don't bring up at the dinner table. People (not naming names but I doubt they know who they are) are very conditioned to think that their path is the only one that's correct/true/you name it. People genuinely and with all their being believe this. That's why.

isnt it amazing how riled up people get about faith and beliefs.
i doubt it helps that many religions tell their followers that they should convert anyone who is not.
then people who dont wanna hear the "word" start fighting back because theyre frustrated with faith answers. its all a big cycle.

You'd have to be seriously brain damaged to be affected by what a bunch of total unknowns say or even think about your beliefs, really...

They get to express their feelings. Unless they are violating Yahoo's community guidelines, they do have the right to do that. It's called freedom of expression.
