Smarter denotes a higher intelligence, so no. The problem is that Americans are poorly educated. We're horrible in math, history, and reading compared to most of the other leading countries of the world
The American school system has been raped by feel-good fluffy people that don't want kids to ever fail at anything. Everyone's a winner and everyone's great is a horrible way to raise a child. It's only by adversity and challenges that we grow and learn. That one kid in school that's winning at the spelling bee will make others strive to win next year. If there's no losers and everyone wins at everything, why try?
If you want to prove her wrong, I suggest you strive to learn more on your own. Go back and actually learn the history of your country and the world (I'm betting she knows more about the country than you do). Go back and put forth real effort at learning math skills that bored you before. Go back and learn grammar and spelling instead of just settling for being as good as everyone else. The school system isn't going to push you, unless you get lucky with a good teacher here or there. You have to push yourself.
If the English girl isn't a miserable snob (though it sounds like she may be) you could maybe study with her. If she is as bad as she sounds, take heart. Once she's in the lazy American school system for a couple years she'll suck as bad the rest of the people. ^^ She's not smarter, she's just been pushed harder. Once she's no longer being pushed, she'll likely slack off like us Americans.

No some people call Americans stupid because they wish they could have the benefits we have in this country. There has always been a rivalry between England and America back from colonial days.
I teach 7th grade and my gifted students are not stupid. The next time someone from another country tells you that you or your peers are considered stupid ask them what they are doing here? Are you over there in their rainy country looking at their horrible teeth? NO. God Bless America.

That's arrogant of her to say. She obviously hasn't surveyed all students in all schools.
On average though, I think Europeans get a better education. I think they have higher criteria, and the kids are disciplined to learn.
Americans have more fractured lives, on average. Lots of people need to work to survive here, including the kids. Things can suffer.
Her comment is based on her experience, so it's her judgment. Don't get so hung up on it. Show her up -- be an A student! Study!

That might be an exaggeration, but not a huge one. My German teacher told my class that the kids our age in Germany take Algebra, Geometry, and pre-calculus at the same time or in the same year. They really load kids up with work to do in Germany's school system. Also if you fail a certain test that you take in elementary school will determine if you stay in "normal" schooling. Its intense. And even more intense in China . Google the school system for countries if you are interested. You can find some interesting stuff.
Ask her too clarify.

you also have to understand the english are also 3 times more snooty the americans always. but it wouldn't be a streth of the imagination to think somewhere in america that's true.
esecialy california. but not the east coast. the colleges in the east coast would probably be outwitted by the 10 grade though.

Sure. And pigs can fly too! England is not known as a hotbed of intellectual prominence. She's just bragging and seeking attention. You will see when the grades come out, if she has the guts to show them.

I think it is not. They don't know what we learn in school. There was a girl from Germany that came over for a semester and she was at the same level that I was (11th grade). We had half of our classes together.
