Just wanted to add i live in Los Angeles and not a small town and I never have seen an afican/american mormon. Also, what is the purpose of no caffeine? I have heard that is something that the mormon faith is against. I am not judging I just want the facts versus the myths. I am well travelled so it is not as if I am in a small town and don't get out. I have just heard many conflicting stories. Thanks to everyone I am learning much.

They believe they have additional revealed scripture we need to be saved in the latter-days. They call it the revelation of the fullness of the gospel. Also, they refer to it as the plan of happiness. Because if people live according to their doctrine they believe you'll have overall happiness. Their main points are eternal families, people can attain Godhood in the afterlife, 3 levels of Heaven vs. 1 assuring all but the most vile a degree of heaven, they have 4 sacred scriptures(BOM, Doctrine&Covenants,Pearl Of Great Price, and the Bible). The BOM is considered right over the Bible if there is a contradiction. Polygamy will be lived in Heaven, women will have children forever, families have family home evening every Monday night, Food storage (yr supply) advised at all times, mortgage/car payments are to be only debts, tithing is required for membership, they marry in temples in sacred ceremonies,families/spouses are sealed for time AND all eternity to each other. They do believe all non-mormons go to outer darkness(Hell). That is why they come door knocking. They desire you to join them in the worst way. But they do believe in baptism for the dead. People are baptized by prozy for the dead if they know they didn't accept the gospel.Especially, if they know the person hadn't the opportunity to do so. That's why they do such extensive genealogy. The only african americans or any other minorities you will see usually are in other countries usually. Until 1978 blacks couldn't hold the priesthood or any other office for that matter. Most mormons are white,middle-class people or above. There are very few that are minorities or poor. They stress alot of giving!!! Not just money but other thiings as well. The minorities/poor don't have as much to offer. They are sweet,well-intentioned,hard-working,devout people over all. They fast one Sunday a month(skip 2 meals @ least) and donate how much money those 2 meals would have cost. Sometimes, they have people bring in canned goods/non-perishables instead of the cash for the fast Sunday offering. Well, I have probably given you more info. than you actually wanted, sorry. See lds.org. that is a great website for the just curious. E-mail me and I will try and help more, if you like.

<---- Black Mormon. There aren't many Black LDS probably for the same reason you don't see many Black Hindus or Buddhists.

No, Mormons don't believe that not being Mormon is a sure ticket to Hell. In all actuality, we don't believe in the traditional Christian sense of Hell, we take more after the Jews. We live, then we die, then we get sent to the "Spirit World". Though there is an "Outer Darkness" where Satan resides, very few people will end up there after the resurrection. In my personal opinion, everyone will end up in heaven.

Mormon missionaries go door to door in order to spread the gospel. They don't want you to simply join, they wan't you to first and foremost believe.

Mormon's can have caffeine. It's advised that we refrain from it as much as possible. Coffee & Tea are strictly forbidden as is smoking, drinking, and illicit drug use.

LDS members (Mormons) believe that it is through faith in Christ that we are saved. We also believe that there are certain priesthood ordinances that must be performed by the proper authority, but we do not believe that you have to be LDS to be saved.
LDS missionaries are young LDS men who decide to postpone careers and schools while they pay their own way and give two years of their lives to teach about Christ. They knock on your door to share with you what they know to be true and have faith in. They know that their message is important and that it can improve the lives of those that listen. This is why they knock on your door. They would love for you to convert if you felt it was true, but even if they can just leave a message with you that will help you they would love that.

There are African America LDS members; however, early on members of the LDS church came from New England and northwestern Europe (mostly the UK) so within the U.S. and especially the western U.S. (where the early saints migrated to) there are a lot of Caucassion members. In Africa though, the LDS church is doing well, and they recently built a temple over in Ghana.

Sure, the basic concept is that we believe Jesus Christ died for the sins of all mankind, and that through His atonement, all who beleive Him and follow His teachings can receive eternal life in heaven, with God. No, we don't believe that everyone who isn't mormon is going to hell. The purpose when missionaries come to the door is to answer questiosn like the ones you have here, and to find people interested in joining the church. I don't know why you don't see any african-american mormons. There are many of them, as the church is a strongly growing, global church.

Mormons are a Christian sect who believe they have the fullnes of the Gospel of Christ. They also believe they have the proper authority on the earth like the early apostles did through the restoration.

They believe in Modern revelation and follow a prophet. The current prophet is Gordon B. Hinckley.

LDS believe anyone can make it into Heaven, if they accept Jesus. They also believe you get kindof a "second chance" after you die to accept Jesus.

When they come to the door they are spreading the word of their religion. You can allow them to talk to you or simply say no thanks and they'll leave.

Yes, they want you to join, but if you don't want to they wont force it.

There are many African American Mormons....maybe it's just where you live. I bet if you go to a big city, especially in the south you'll see some.

Glady Knight is LDS and why don't you see more Black as LDS you probably don't live in a black neighborhood. No you're not going to hell if you don't want to believe us. The atonement of Jesus Christ is unlimited and blessed on all of us. In US the stereotype we are white but the church will have more latinos from the US to Argentina and inbetween as the majority very soon.

"As man is, God once was. As God is, man shall become."

Mormonism is basically Christianity with the added notion that we are baby gods & some truly appalling archaeological assertions.

Yes, they want you to join the Church. I don't think they believe other Christians are going to hell, but I'm pretty sure the Mormon God still gets to roast atheists.

Mormon theology used to overtly exclude Blacks from any positions of authority. Even though the sanctions against this have been lifted, relatively few brothers aspire to Mormon leadership or membership.

The Mormons are the only ones getting into Heaven, don't you watch South Park!? :)

They believe Black people are fallen angels, cursed by god. That's why you don't see them. Nice huh?

It was started by Joseph Smith, a 33rd degree Freemason, how was walking through a field and was given golden tablet (which he prolly swallowed LOL) containing the book of Mormon. These tablets disappeared (surprise surprise) after he had written them down.

Its basically another schism of christianity, but they believe Jesus went to America AFTER he was resurected and taught the native americans christianity, which they managed to forget again.
The native americans are surposed to be the lost tribe of Cain. The mark of Cain was a lack of facial hair.

They wear magical undies to protect them during their travels and their churches have masonic and pagan images in them (not that theres anything wrong with that).

Ive read the book of Mormon out of interest and it was even more violent than the bible. Its poorly written too, every line begins with "And it came to pass.......".

If you get into conspiracy stuff, its run by shape shifting alien lizards that feast on the flesh of babies. (hehe)

They have close ties with the Jehovas Witnesses as well, who were also started by Freemasons.

Theres another book they dont show to outsiders thats full of Egyptian Images, Ive seen it but have not read it.... yet.
