Is presumptuousness a 'sin' aka a wrong-doing aka all around a terrible, destructive frame of mind?

If so, isn't it a contradiction to call it a sin, yet presume things to a black and white, 'in or out' level of dealing with your fellowman?

I see so many posts about what 'will' happen to people for their actions or lifestyles, but if being presumptuous is being comparable to a pharisee in the Bible, shouldn't this arrogance be avoided?

I find it aggrivating to read people's comments that take on this tone -- believer or non-believer, mind you -- because it automatically means they are not open to the possiblity that they may be wrong, like so many (if not all) of us often are. Thus, any discussion you may have with them will be one-sided and really, not a discussion at all.

John - That depends on what you deem to be 'intelligent'. Some learned person from book-smarts may not always be considered 'intelligent'. They just know what they choose to read.

Well...let's start with this.

True faith requires that we believe without question. Believe me when I say that this is very difficult for me, but it is part of faith.
So...with faith we must say that what God or Bhudda or Christ, etc. have told us is true.

However...this is different from passing judgement on someone. The problem with many of my fellow Christian is they are very quick to pass judgement on others. They are bound not to approve of that which they believe is sinful and certainly they are not to participate. Still, it is not there job to tell someone that what they have just done is an express ticket to hell.

A Christian knows that forgiveness is always waitting from God for the truely repentant and that while there is life there is still time to repent. It is the Christians duty to set a good example by his own actions and to encourage others to follow the path laid out by Christ.

Beating someone into submission or telling them they are damned is a very poor way to achieve converts.

You could call judging people as presumptuous to be presumptuous.

I see the biggest problem in communication to be the idea that people can understand what we are communicating.

Quite often we communicate something or receive a communication in an unintended manner.

If one person tells another "you did that wrong." the person receiving the communication can receive the communication in so many different ways depending on their (concept, idea, understanding, history, etc).

The comment was meant "one way", who knows which, and can be taken many different ways.

As a result people have to be willing and open enough to communicate until they are confident they understand the other person's position, understanding, etc.

Interestingly I have seen that people who are "less intelligent" become better communicators than "very intelligent" people because often the "more intelligent" a person is the more likely they are to believe they understand before they "really" do.

You are right all of us regardless of intelligence lervel are often wrong this is why thew Bible says that we should not judge(Romans2:1)1You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge the other, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things. So yes presumptiousness is wrong, and as the Bible says inexcusable. Yet Nowadays people even feel worthy to judge God himself, no wonder they judge each other, yes it is arrogance and should be avoided, but humans are humans, what else can I say.

Confidence is not what you are complaining about. I sounds more like intolerance. Those that are confidence should be gentle.
