Traditionally, the "silver cord" is seen as the line tying us and our life to our physical bodies, and once it is snapped, we leave our bodies since they have physically died. Many have seen this phenomenon in the astral plane (not me, and I have no reason or intention to ever go there.) It is a classical "new age" idea, but is Biblical as well!

Ecclesiastes 12:5-7 (New International Version)
6 Remember him—before the silver cord is severed,
or the golden bowl is broken;
before the pitcher is shattered at the spring,
or the wheel broken at the well,
7 and the dust returns to the ground it came from,
and the spirit returns to God who gave it.

Why are people so scared of New Age terminology and ideas, when they are based on Biblical proof? Granted, some of the New Age philosophy is incorrect and "out there", however, the ancient ideas that the fundamental basis of it is entirely Biblical. Do some research, use your brain, and decide for you!

There is little to distinguish new poppycock from old poppycock. It all still poppycock, and the Bible isn't even the oldest poppycock. Most of it's tenants were stolen from other religions and paganism.

Using your brain means recognizing and accepting when something is absurd fantasy.

Ecc 12:6 Yes, remember your Creator now while you are young, before the silver cord of life snaps and the golden bowl is broken. Don't wait until the water jar is smashed at the spring and the pulley is broken at the well. Ecc 12:7 For then the dust will return to the earth, and the spirit will return to God who gave it. The "silver cord" spoken of here refers to the main cord that held the early tabernacle (tent) together. If it snapped, the whole tabernacle would come down. Solomon here compares human life to that cord - he calls it the "silver cord" to differnetiate it. When our silver cord snaps then our lives are over. Scripture constantly refers to humans as God's tents or tabernacles. 2Cr 5:1 For we know that when this earthly tent we live in is taken down (that is, when we die and leave this earthly body), we will have a house in heaven, an eternal body made for us by God himself and not by human hands. 2Cr 5:2 We grow weary in our present bodies, and we long to put on our heavenly bodies like new clothing. 2Cr 5:3 For we will put on heavenly bodies; we will not be spirits without bodies. [fn] 2Cr 5:4 While we live in these earthly bodies, we groan and sigh, but it's not that we want to die and get rid of these bodies that clothe us. Rather, we want to put on our new bodies so that these dying bodies will be swallowed up by life. 2Cr 5:5 God himself has prepared us for this, and as a guarantee he has given us his Holy Spirit.

Yes I do. Many people after they go through a very traumatic life event will lose a part of their soul, and that is on the same theory. I have seen a woman regain a missing part of her soul that had left her (after a bad burn from boiling water in a pot as a child she was quiet, sullen, and taken advantage of in every aspect of her life) in a ritual that was quite amazing. I wonder if you're quoting the bible to fend off fundies, sorry if it didnt' work. lol. You don't need to defend yourself, just ignore them.

New Age terminology??? That is something the bookstores are calling everything from Wicca, to the Occult, to Masonic books! That name no longer applies to anything other than bookstore jargon. And most of what you speak of pre-dates both the bible and Christ. I do do research and use my brain quite often thank you.

You create your own reality. If you believe in a silver cord, then it may seem like you have one. Let your beliefs follow your desires, and try to create the reality you want.
