My grandfather was a professional photographer, and he had a bunch of cameras, as i was told by my mom. One of the cameras that he had, and i have now, is a Konica Autorex. Its the model with the half and full frame lever and is silver NOT black. The thing is, it doesnt work, like it used to. Nothing works on the camera besides the aperture ring. I was wondering, how good was the camera back then, and now. And should i bother paying some money to refurbish the whole thing?

ps, im getting an estimate hopefully on how much it should be to fix the whole thing up.

I am not a Konica collector, but I think I would try to ascertain the value of your particular camera before you decide to shelve it. It was apparently built for the Japanese market, but was the first successful auto exposure 35mm slr. It also appears to one of only 2 cameras built that could switch from full frame to half-frame. There is one currently selling on ebay with a $729 asking price. I also saw one advertised in Switzerland for 2,000 The below links are to sights that may give you some helpful information.

Do you have a photography museum around.

They might be able to give you a better answer, after seeing the camera, and send you to the right person.

It is expensive to get new cameras fixed. Probably more so an older camera, that hasnt had parts made in a long time.

You might try a VERY GOOD camera service center (if there is one close by), and see if maybe a good cleaning helps things to work properly. You can probably get that done fairly inexpensively, and maybe get some answers about getting it fixed.

Hope it works out for you.
