There are a lot of people who were not religious buried at Westminster Abby. I really enjoyed touring it, especially the literary area. It was so much fun to look down and exclaim "Look whose here!"

Shows how much you know about how the Brits honor their greats.
Darwin was an agnostic. His faith receded after the death of his favorite daughter.
His degree was in theology. He was a ship's chaplain on the Beagle before taking over as naturalist.
PS: Due to Bettie's amusing post, I must point out that the liar, Lady Hope, is NOT buried in Westminster Abbey.
And if you'd want real irony, why not a chickenhawk like Ronald Reagan or GW Bush being buried at Arlington?

lol! Charles Darwin was actually Christian then became agnostic later on in life. Some people incorrectly assume that he was atheist because he came up with the Theory of Evolution.

Charles Darwin was an agnostic. Seeing how he is dead, I doubt he had much say in the matter. Thanks for letting me know Westminster Abby is a church, I had my doubts.

isnt it ironic the religious dont have the facts?
he wasnt an athiest.
all he did was study animals and say they slowly changed over time to adapt to a changing world. which... they did.... just like people did....and do today.... eskimoes.. have thicker eyelids that most people to keep out the wind and snow. black people have darker skin to help prevent burning...look at all the difference in every race on the planet....evolution is all around you.
and well england honors their greats... just like we do. he did bring about new thinking. and thats where we learn...when we open our minds...and think about new ideas
you have to start trying that ... really

He wasn't an atheist - he was agnostic when he died.
Thanks for pointing out that Westminster Abbey is a church though. That's helpful.

Aren't most cemeteries kind of owned or whatever by some religion or another... people don't exactly have much choice in that.

I don't think he was an atheist. Is he buried next to Lady Hope?
