No. They would understand. You need to live your life also. As long as you understand that you still need to visit them. Forget what "other people" think. We all waste a lot of time because of what othe people think.

I wouldn't put them in a home just because you don't feel like taking care of them, but if you are unable to help due to working or something then I suppose it's alright. Though there will always be the people that judge.

As a person that will soon need a family member to take care of me (major back surgery), I would hope that my daughters will not think of me as just a problem to foist off on someone else.

Why not get respite care, or someone to come in a few hours a day or several times a week. It would much cheaper, they would be much happier, and it would be the most kind.

You don't have to answer to ANYONE but yourself. Do what's best for you and the person involved. You deserve a life,too, and it doesn't mean you're not concerned about your family member.

You might not be trained or able to help someone.
It's not your fault they are incapacitated. It's not your job to drop everything and care for them.
If you want to, that one thing.
If you don't want to, thats your right.
