There are many do-it-yourself places on the web.
Some sites are scams, some sites are fairly decent except they charge for information and then there are some that are free non spam/scam credit discussion sites where you can learn.
creditboards.com or creditinfocenter.com are a couple of the best free sites I've seen.

You also need to read the FTC information (FDCPA, FCRA, etc) and your states laws.

You might click on my profile and do some reading in the FTC sites I have linked.

To Repair credit score
Your credit score is based mostly on:

1. Length of credit history
2. Payment history.
3. Ratio of credit used to available credit.
4. Number of credit inquiries you authorized.

If you cancel your card, you'll be hurting your credit ratio. (#3).

You want to deliberately keep your oldest credit card open, even if you never use it.

You want to always pay the minimums of each loan on time every month.

You want to keep your available credit high, but actually only have balances equalinig 25% or less.

You want to keep your credit inquiries to a minimum. Try for no more than 3 or 4 per year for any type of loans.

You do these things and your credit score will quickly soar into the 700s.

There must be books online, or even at your local library.

Sit down. Gather all of your statements and write down every card and all amounts owing.

Then grab your pay stubs and figure our your net income (after rent/heat, light, food, etc) Once you have the end result of what's left make a plan - how much will go to each credit card every month.

Stick to it. Pay something to each card every month and don't use your credit cards for anything. Cash only.

Also consider which card has the highest interest rate - try to pay them down first or give them the larger amt monthly.

Did you use any books or websites when defaulted on tons of your creditors? If on your own, then pay them back.

you can clear your credit by yourself, save money......start paying off what you owe.....once you pay them off it will show on your credit file, and then slowly rebuild your credit....
