1. Mince pie, the old fashioned kind with real meat in the mincemeat. Serve with just a trickle of apple schnapps, brandy, or whiskey poured over the filling of the warm slice of pie and the crust returned in place just before serving. The children get a bit of apple cider on theirs.

2. Hot, fresh, homemade honey wheat rolls (made with half whole wheat flour and half white bread flour and not too much honey, as we don't like sweet rolls with dinner) to accompany Christmas dinner.

3. Christmas cookies. All of the recipes are old family favorites, none less than fifty years old. Molasses cookies, sugar cakes, peanut butter cookies, oatmeal raisin cookies, sand tarts, chocolate chip cookies, and snicker-doodles.

4. For my two brothers, who are the only ones in the family to enjoy it, fruitcake.

5. Spice cake. Seems traditional for us to have at Christmas, it goes good later on in the evening, way after Christmas dinner (and dessert). Usually served with coffee, tea, cocoa, cider, and/or egg nog.
