Jeff, if you look to a magic 8 ball for answers it is no wonder you can't hear God's answers too clearly! For one thing, God is opposed to all magic/witchcraft so even goofing around with an 8 ball is offensive to God (not to mention disrespectful).

Besides that, the way you write seems pretty flippant, like you don't seriously expect God to communicate with you. If you just casually wonder what God has to say I doubt He'll have much to say to you. He takes His relationship to people very seriously and wants us to return that attention to Him.

To answer the actual question: God uses many ways to give answers, sometimes what the Bible teaches gives us clear information on God's ideas/what is acceptable to Him. Sometimes God uses circumstances to open the door and say yes or to close the door and indicate a no. He can use other people like parents or trusted advisors to give us His answer.

Bottom Line: God would love to relate to you and guide your life, He really cares about you far more than you realize. If you want to hear from God, sit down and talk to Him as if He is in the room with you (which is what prayer is). Get serious about Him and He will begin the relationship of a lifetime with you!!!

For Christians, when God says "No," to them, they will have a kind of peace about knowing that His answer was "no".
Same for the other responses you wondered about.
Believe it or not, God DOES talk to us, (all of us), but Christians tend to hear His voice a little better.
It's a matter of training your flesh to be quiet while God speaks so that you really can hear Him more clearly.
Hope this helps you understand the concept of prayer.

This is actually a wonderful question- and I have learned to see the difference between no and wait- if it is wait, then there is apart of me that keeps nudging me to continue praying. When God says no, even to something that I really would like in my life, there is a peace that comes with that answer.

Well, if you prayed while you were not in peace with people around you, or you prayed for something against God's will, or Just asked for something you did not need, and you did not get your prayer answered right away, most likely the answer is "no". if you did pray under the right conditions, and still did not recieve an answer, i guess there is no way to know.

Listen for that still, small voice...

And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the LORD. And, behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and broke in pieces the rocks before the LORD; but the LORD was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the LORD was not in the earthquake: And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still, small voice. 1 Kings 19:11-12

God isn't a listing service, you can't ring him up and ask him to do something every time you call. A relationship in Jesus is just that, a relationship - you talk to him and tell him how things are. Whenever you talk to your wife or husband are you constantly asking him/her for things? It implies a lack of respect - you'd be dumped in a snap.

This sort of 'ask and receive' notion was abolished by Jesus. It currently stands as Satanism - Satan being the one who offers everything you want.

When you wait on Him, you either lack peace with any solution, or there is ambiguity, i.e. no "door" has opened nor clearly closed.
When God answers, and we are looking, the "doors" will open wide, and clearly shut in your life. When you take the "door" that is open, you also have peace.

Sometime,s when we pray to God and ask of him
he say,s yes right there, then there are time,s he will
not say yes because it might be wrong for us and he
now,s more than us,but he will answer ,we just might
not like the answer.

If you don't act in harmony with your prayers (i.e. ask for forgiveness of sin while not forgiving others or keep practising sin) then God will not act. Also you must work on the problem yourself to show you are earnest in wanting God to help you , otherwise he will not

If you pray asking in the name of Jesus for something holy and believe in God to answer he will. but don't pray for ungodly things or you wont get your prayer answered. GOD always answers prayers on his time which is always on time.
