I got only one person that gave me any source at all to look at on this question:

So, according to official church teaching (again full citation please), what is promised to those who live the very best possible life as a Mormon?

This person would follow church teachings as close as humanly possible. What do they get after they die? Please be very specific.

*sigh* I am interested in learning. Is that not the purpose of Y!A? I would like to take a scholarly look at the LDS belief system and to do so I need official sources. Beside this, would it hurt to know why you believe what you do and what it is based on?

Thanks for the links everyone I got this from one of the sites which explains a part of what I wanted to know:

Blessings of Exaltation

1. They will live eternally in the presence of Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ (see D&C 76).

2. They will become gods.

3. They will have their righteous family members with them and will be able to have spirit children also. These spirit children will have the same relationship to them as we do to our Heavenly Father. They will be an eternal family.

4. They will receive a fulness of joy.

5. They will have everything that our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ have—all power, glory, dominion, and knowledge. President Joseph Fielding Smith wrote: “The Father has promised through the Son that all that he has shall be given to those who are obedient to his commandments. They shall increase in knowledge, wisdom, and power, going from grace to grace, until the fulness of the perfect day shall burst upon them” (Doctrines of Salvation, 2:36).

I'm sorry. We sometimes have the tendency to get defensive when our beliefs are questioned. It happens. Sometimes we need reminding that our commercials do say "Ask your Mormon neighbor."

Anyway, about your question. I think the best reference would be Doctrine and Covenants section 76. That is the most detail about the afterlife in our scriptures. See the link below. For the Celestial (highest) glory, look at verses 50-70 and 92-95

Another good reference, below, discusses eternal life, exaltation. That is what we refer to as the highest degree in the celestial kingdom.

Section 84 in D&C contains the "oath and covenant of the priesthood" in verses 33-42. In there we are promised that if we are faithful in obtaining the two priesthoods we will receive "all that (our) Father hath."

(That middle link has many other links you can use and research)

Hope that helps.

Good luck.

You are going to be fine. You may not lose your calling so don't worry. What you are about to learn is something that is worth everything in the world. Bishops are very wise and have been blessed with great understanding. They also have been given the keys to help in this situation. You've been very open on this post which is amazingly brave or you don't realize the ravinous swine that is out there. Replacing the bad things with the good things and making a goal is definately on the right track, but by meeting with the Bishop you are accomplishing the steps provided by the Savior. You are going to gain a testimony of Jesus Christ in a very special way. I'm sure you can say that he lives and that he loves you. You can say that you know the church is true. What you are going to learn and know for yourself after that door closes behind you when you talk with the bishop is that the power of the atonement for you. You will now become a witness of it's power, majesty, hope, love, and guidance. It is beautiful, the fear and nervousness will pass and you will realize that those feelings are not from the Holy Ghost, but from the advisary. You are giving the Lord the opportunity to help you make your weakness into a strength. Youth and adults face this temptation daily and you are not alone. Your calling has helped you. If you consider that your calling was inspired, you also must consider that the Lord knew of your weakness. If you hadn't been given the calling do you think you would even be considering this at this point? Probably not, it was perhaps his way of reaching out to you, a way of providing you with the spirit needed to help you through this. You will be great and do great. You will be clean, be honest. We all make mistakes, but it takes a person of true faith to do what is required and make themselves clean again. Congratulations as well. You are on the right track. Don't back down from what you know you should do. It will make you a great president if that is what is determined, or also a great Mia-maid with a strong new testamony.

Here is a link about the different kingdoms of glory. If you click on additional info, you will see the celestial kingdom is first. That would be the highest kingdom with a fullness of blessings.

The only things we are promised in the next life would be to be with our family eternally and to live with God and Jesus and we will have the ability to become Gods and Goddesses (notice I said the ability and not that we would automatically be such). The rest is pretty much based on opinion and there is not much doctrine. No where does our doctrine say we will have our own planets.
Even church leaders have spouted their opinions on the afterlife, after all, aren't they allowed to have opinions as well? However, most of those opinions are not considered doctrine.

A white stone.

Revelation 2:17 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.

Then the white stone mentioned in Revelation 2:17, will become a Urim and Thummim to each individual who receives one, whereby things pertaining to a higher order of kingdoms will be made known;

Again, why?

Those that live the best life you can possibly live on earth will go to the highest degree of the Celestial Kingdom. They will live with God and their families forever. They will create their own worlds, and populate those worlds, and start the whole thing over again.

specific enough?

WOW ....this is so interesting you have really inspired me to learn the Mormon religion. I am a Christian Born Again...about 12 years now....though I grew up in the Lutheran church........I found the Holy Spirit in the penticostal or chrismatic type of churches.......I askied God what He would call His church as I was confused about all the different religions and their divisions, which seemed strange to me.

He showed me that He is not coming back for the Mormons, Catholics, Lutherans, Chrismatics, OR Full Gospels, but He is coming back for One church the Church of God.......in Christ ALONE......no man has ever gotten it right by starting a church or a sect....as long as you are in the Word you have power...the Church of God is the only name given in the NKJ....or any other bible for that matter......
we are actually warned to not glorify any man that we have been taught under anyway......some say I am of Paul and some say I am of Appolis.....we are all of the same church... one plants one waters and one harvests......but God always brings the increase........(phra)..........Besides the new covenant in Christ is to LOVE......that is the standard that we will all be judged .........how well we loved others as ourselves........

I believe that every religion is missing this dramatically......we turn our backs on those who have a need right in our own neighborhoods and say OH =I'll pray for you........I want to see the church in action.......really helping people....by action and deed not lip service only.

have you ever asked God who you could give a $100.00 to, that needs help with bills and didn't care if you got a recipt for a tax return or not ?????? Or maybe you have an extra car to help someone in need!!!! , Give it to them!!! Or clean someones house or do some fix it job without expecting money???I do these things and I have found the truth in His word about giving........

THIS is Gods precious way......He spoke to me early July, as I was watering my mothers flower garden, and He said---as clear as a bell---Verily, Verily I say unto you>>>>>>>>>>>>

Wow....my heart skipped a beat.......I could hardly wait for what He was going to say next........

THen He quickened this to me>>>>>>...what ever a man sows, that, He shall also reap, .......then I finished it, as I knew the rest...........whether good or bad..........

can't even pray for a crop failure.........sow self--"ish"-ness you'll get a harvest

sow righteously and you will be blessed..............it's God"s precious way......Religion doesn't matter
Holy Spirit...that matters, and through Him, we learn to LOVE... they will know we are Christians by our love....Amen

It's the relationship that matters not the religion.......

Drizzt said it best. I don't think I could state it any better, except to add that you should visit www.Mormon.org or www.LDS.org

Mormon.org has a live chat feature.
