My husband is an active soldier and he is covered under tricare. We just recently went to a regular NOT a military doctor. And I would highly recommend going to an outside doctor if you're going for antidepressants. But they will cover it!

If you're in the military, you're not technically covered by TriCare - you just have access to all military docs. You will need to talk to your mental health rep - find out through your squad leader.
If you're a dependent, yes TriCare will cover you and pay for your antidepressants.

You have a couple choices....go visit your doctor or go visit a psychiatrist. You can self refer yourself to a psychiatrist and tricare will pay for it. Where we live you have to get antidepressants from a psychiatrist...not sure why but that's the way it is. Anyways, always call the psychiatrist first to make sure they accept your insurance. They will usually deal with tricare so you don't have to. Tricare does pay for your prescriptions.

Yes, if you have Tricare prime and are assigned to a MTF then you need to see them first and if necessarily get a referral to an outside doctor. You will be put on medication if the doctor feels you need it. The prescription should be able to be filled at the MTF pharmacy. If not then you can go outside to a place like Walgreen's get it filled there at a reduced rate. If you don't have one assigned then you need to call the Tricare office for your area and get one assigned to you.
If you are on Tricare Standard then you see a doctor that accepts and is approved by Tricare, you will have to do a copay for it. If he writes a prescription you should be able to get it filled at the MTF pharmacy as well or at Walgreen's.

Hi:
I noted your other question regarding stress being generated about the deployment/children, etc. May I offer an honest from the heart suggestion?
Even though it may be difficult to do so, please go to one of your Base Chaplains and talk to him about not only your worries, but the belief you are depressed. Trust me, he will be a tremendous help. And, if he believes you should have medical attention for depression, he will assist you in getting that help.
You are young with tremendous stress, especially fulfilling the task of being a military spouse, and if you keep the problems to yourself you'll only lose. Go ask for help from the Chaplain. Trust me it can only help. I've seen many similar problems during my career and nearly every instance discussing it with the Chaplain was a blessing.
Good luck and thanks for supporting your spouse. You are both heroes.

i know they do for active military. not sure about dependants, but i would think so. there could be several places to go. your base may have a R&R center. maybe even at the hospital. i know any time i go to sick call they ask if i feel depressed. if you say yes, they get you the info you need.

you may self refer to a counselor on your own. use Military One Source to start.. 5 free sessions. if it is determined that you need more help, you will need to go through your PCM who will grant you a referral to see a Mental Health professional. if you are prescribed Meds, if it is in the formulary on base, it will be at no cost. otherwise, you will pay the co pay in town.
