I want to start a charity and donate the proceeds to a local hospital. How do I go about doing this legally???

You should go to your state's official website and look into setting up your corporate entity. I believe there is a special catagory for non-profits. Also look up your non-profit's name at www.uspto.gov under the trademark section to make sure your name is not already being used.
