It depends on how will you use it. Consider price, size of camera, ease of use, etc. If you will use it just for family or vacation them get the kodak. It's cheaper, it's got movie mode, very easy to use plus the pictures are great once you master the equipment. You can check out the Kodak Z812 IS. For slim cameras check out their V series. Canon also makes compacts like the Powershot. I go to a website like Dave's picks and then I do my research.

Cannon is supposed to be "better".
But I seem to have lots of problems with their products.
I had a camera, that lost its "newness" very soon. Very blurry shots, it cost 250 too. It was a rip off.
And a picture printer that really sucks, I'd rather go out to the store and spend 2 dollars to get my prints than take my time to use it.
So I'm going to say Kodak.

Since Canon is the leader in digital photography, cornering about 2/3 the market, I'd say go with them.
