Our pastor likes to get up in church and brag about his salvation, I am trying to remember where I read in the Bible that says boasting about your own personal salvaion is wrong.
I am able to find the part where you are not to brag about your works, but this one is eluding me.
Please, serious answers only : ) Thanks!

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. -Ephesians 2:8-10.

Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began, - 2 Timothy 1:9.

Salvation is a work of God not of man so therefore your pastor can brag all he wants. It wasn't his work. It was the work of Christ. There is nothing wrong with letting people know that Christ saved you. The real question is...Does your pastor want to see other people saved?

But I have trusted in Your mercy; My heart shall rejoice in Your salvation. Ps. 13:5

You have also given me the shield of Your salvation;Your right hand has held me up, Your gentleness has made me great. Ps. 18:35

The king shall have joy in Your strength, O LORD;And in Your salvation how greatly shall he rejoice! Ps. 21:1

Let all those who seek You rejoice and be glad in You;Let such as love Your salvation say continually, “The LORD be magnified!” Ps. 40:16

Well, if your pastor holds Arminian beliefs, he may as well brag about his salvation. After all, he has free will and he chose God. Glory to the pastor. However, his sermons would also have to include some kind of concern since he could lose his salvation at any time. After all, if he could opt in, then he should be able to opt out.

Unfortunately, I was never able to memorize well but I can paraphrase and then maybe you or someone will recognize it and be able to find the passage.

Jesus told a parable about a rabbi in the synagogue who went on and on about how much he put in the poor box and how he has such favor with God....and then there was an old widow in the back of the synagogue who quietly prayed and put only a small coin in the poor box but it represented a great part of her income whereas the rabbi's denotation was a lot but a small portion of his income. Then Jesus asked the disciplines who had the greater favor with God.

I would have to go someone else if I had a pastor who was constantly telling us how much holier and "saved" he was than everyone else.

Sister,

Take heed to yourselves, that your heart be not deceived, and ye turn aside, and serve other gods, and worship them;

For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.

And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

Ask him about Jesus directly; or see if he ever preaches about Jesus is come in the flesh or does not preach that one must work out their own salvation with fear and trembling, he might be a wolf. Marvel not for our King said it shall be like this.

May God bless you in understanding, Look up Isaiah 28:10 and know how we should read what is written.!

All such boasting is evil. According to the Apostle Paul.

“By this undeserved kindness, indeed, you have been saved through faith; and this not owing to you, it is God’s gift. No, it is not owing to works, in order that no man should have grounds for boasting.”—Eph. 2:8, 9.

There ya go.

I guess he ignores the fear and trembling part of God's plan for mankind.
