Yes, the war 'god' of Abraham is the worst thing ever to happen to the human race. The resulting religions - Judaism, Christianity, Islam and Mormonism - are all violent and promote selfishness and elitism.
To the person who said all religions are barbaric and backwards: you are making a blanket statement when I'm pretty sure you know nothing about Wicce, Wicca, or the many indigeneous religions that allowed humans to live in peace before Christians destroyed their cultures. It's ignorant to lump us in with those religions that have inflicted such suffering on our people.
The way of the Goddess is a way of peace, of harmony with Nature and with each other. It's an awareness that all life is connected on a subatomic level, and that separateness is an illusion of the physical world. On a quantum Goddess level, we're all just matter vibrating in a field of energy, and we can affect the form that matter takes with focus and intention. There is no violence in our way - we would only be hurting ourselves. I see nothing barbaric or backwards with a vision of social justice, prosperity for all, respect for Nature and for each other. That's what I spend my life working to create.

There are three main religions involved here and I'm pretty sure you're implying that Islam is "barbaric and backwards" and although there are certain practices that are, literally all religions have some practices that are. There arealso other practice that don't make the nightly news because they simply aren't sensational enough for the news networks to broadcast which show the other side of Islam which include it's rich culture and the more positive aspects of the religion.
Who are we to judge another religion and culture entirely when we have not experienced it ourselfs.

While many aspects of ANY religion are, indeed, "bass ackwards", I do not believe all aspects of the Abrahamic religions, or any religion for that matter, are.
For example, is compassion for widows, orphans, and poor a barbaric principle?
Is respect and honor for spouses and parents a backwards principle?
Is forgiveness barbaric?
While many aspects of abrahamic religions are taken far out of context, and others are downright barbaric, no, I do not believe ALL of them should have been left behind.

Well, the religion and concept matched Buddism, once upon a time that is. It was all to do with peace and such but there are followeres (in any religion mind) that go fanatical and do stupid, crazy things all in the name of "faith" [roll of eyes]
I think laws over in the middle east that pertain to their religion is horendous, i have heard news stories just lately that shock, outrage and downright disgust me that they will and can treat their people that way.
But, i'm a tad hurt people on here will say "yeah, that goes for all religions" as in, they should have been lost in the dark ages and left there, i think that is sad to say. I mean, if you don't want to be in any part of a religion, that's fine, go your merry way and leave the rest alone. But, i do acknowledge, there are radicals out there that take it to unecessary extremes.
We are Southern Baptists and we wouldn't say boo to a goose!
We don't preach, we don't judge, we don't wear frilly dresses and cling to our bible, we just wear wranglers, cowboy/girl hats and boots and we'll say howdy sir/ma'am no matter who you are. So, not everyone and not every religion is nuts and satanical, those who follow the religion that twist the words of the bible and go their own way give alot of us a bad name!
I do though agree that the Abrahamic religion is atrocious given todays day and age and needs a good shake up.

Abrahamic religions, no not the religions just some of the nut jobs that use the religion to try and force their ways on others.
I'm a Christian, but I would not kill you because you don't have the same beliefs as I do.
If you don't believe they way I do that is just fine, just don't try and force me to stop believing.
And if you are disrespectful to my religion well I won't like it but that is your right and I won't riot in the streets demanding an apology.

Ok this one is up my allie. first any violence or barbaric part of them is man or woman for that matter distorting them. if fact thats was part of the dark ages worst violence when men wanted power through relgion. Marten Luther tryed to change this and even his message has been distorted (Hitler used his message as a reson to kill jews). to under stand any of them you must read what was said your self in the tora the bible and the koran and seek wise counsal. and more than just one. for if they tell you that it is not about loving one another even with our falts they are not reading what was writen. all three major ones teach loving all people no matter what our differances. knowing god and knowing religion are not one in the same. one writer put it this way the church has many that God does not have and God has many that the church does not have. I work dayly to change that at my church. I know who in my church that God does not have and I seek to bring in people who God does. I do not want people in my church that God does not have. and by the way no I am not a pastor. I hope this helps you and my your spirital journy find it's path to inlitenment about all peoples and religions

Christian Principles are found in the Decleration of Independence (Equality).
Now, if THAT isn't peaceful enough for you, then I'm guessing that you are probably seeking a religion with spontaneous sacrifices and such. Have you heard about the Aztecs?

All three major Abrahamic religions have barbaric histories. Each present opportunities for peace, though, if left in the right hands.

I would say christianity is really backward, islam seems to make sense...
But christianity is a big hoax, a story made based on different other exisiting stories...
Jesus was just a nice guy, all other stories were built around him, just to control the masses..

Absolutely. Obviously. Without question.
And no, it's not necessarily the "religious" people who are barbaric and backwards, but the religion itself. Most religious people have the same interior sense of morality that we all have, and for the same self-evident reasons. They only *think* that they had to read "Thou shalt not kill" in the Bible in order to know that it wasn't a good idea.
