Before I read about it on this forum, I had no idea it was comming. I watched the advert, and on the grounds of what I saw (Kids fantasy film-very potterlike) I decided I would not be seeing it. Not a religous decision. Now however since I have read arguments against it(daily) I feel like I have to see it.

Do people, by making a fuss of this film actually promote it beyond the powers almost any markting team?

I had heard of it vaguely but since Nicole Kidman was in it there was little chance I would have seen it.

After people spun out of control about it I decided to read the book. It's pretty good. I bought the books for myself and my nephew and we're going to go see the movie (in spite of NK being in it.

Unlike most, I've been waiting for this film to be made for years and remember when the screenplay had to be redone because the anti-religious themes were too strong. I expect the result will be sanitized compared with the books. But yeah, the hype against it is not surprising, and I can't imagine it keeping the curious away--it seems to have put the books back on the radar!

I think most people that were going to see are still going to and vice versa and for everyone that wont go see it because of the controversy they probably caused a person to go see it, so it pretty much evens out.

There really arent a whole lot of movies coming out so this movie was bound to do well, esp with Nicole Kidman and that James Bond guy.

Definitely. I know for sure that it has in at least one case. I had never even heard of it, until I saw the religious complaining about it on some show. I checked it out and when it comes out, I am going to take my niece to see it. Have you ever head the saying, "Bad publicity is better than no publicity?"

Contriversy always makes me want to see a movie more. If people are complaining I want to see why,I don't care what the opinion of the movie is. Why else would I have sat through "The Passion of the Christ" if I ever hear another word of Aramaic it will be too soon.

Yes. There's an old saying in the PR world: "there's no such thing as bad publicity". Getting people to talk about something, one way or the other, at the very least gets people curious.

I might read the book to see what the hype is about. Hype makes me take actions I wouldn't normally take. I watched LOTR, for example.
