I have puffing gums, and my dentist said i need to floss more. But another dentist said it's not about flossing, but its about brushing at the right angle. My gums are very swollen and do not bleed that much when I brush, nor do they hurt. I also have braces. I brush for a long time (Over 5 minutes each brush time which is 2 times a day) and I brush my gums. I use mouthwash, but I do not floss very often. I also have braces. Please tell me what this is called and how I can solve it.

You may also need to gargle with salt water to reduce swelling in your gums. If you can not use salt water then try any antiseptic that like Listerine. Try it a few times a day for the next few days and see if that works. Every time my gums get swollen that's what I try and it works for me.

inflammation of the gums is called gingivitis.
The recommended brushing time is 2 minutes. You should use a soft bristled brush, brush in soft circles or place brush at a 45 degree angle with the gum line and brush in the direction your teeth grow. It is very important to brush your gums. Flossing will remove plaque and other debris from between teeth. Mouthwash isn't a must do... fluoride rinse at bedtime could be a great idea and will help with gum swelling.

THIS IS A VERY GOOD QUESTION. THIS IS KNOWN AS TRAUMA FROM ABRASION.
PEOPLE WITH BRACES SHOULD INVEST IN BUYING A WATERPIK MACHINE. THIS WILL CLEAN VERY EFFICIENTLY AROUND THE BRACKETS/WIRES AND WILL NEVER CAUSE TRAUMA/
THE DENTISTS WERE BOTH CORRECT.THE
PROBLEM WAS NOT CAUSED BY FLOSSING.BUT THE CORRECT ANGLE TO THE GUMS MUST ALSO BE ESTABLISHED SO THAT THE PLAQUE IS PROPERLY REMOVED.
BE SURE TO USE ONLY A SOFT TOOTHBRUSH AND KEEP A PROPER ANGLE TO THE GUMS. 45 DEGREES.
USE A WATERPIK DAILY AND THE SWOLLEN GUMS WILL BE A THING OF THE PAST. 2 MINUTES OF THOROUGH BRUSHING WILL SUFFICE.

Ok you must use listering for that it helps better than any mouthwash. You need to floss but there is something that you use that you put the floss in the loop and it helps you floss when you got braces on. I don't really remember the name tho. The reason why your gums are puffy is that plaque has developed in there and so has germs. To relieve it it must be cleaned out. The dentist should have cleaned it for you by spraying water in the pockets.

your brushing too much(length wise) and your brushing too hard. just brush 2 minutes everyday twice a day.
