One place I've had great success with is www.beachcamera.com

As for the lens - it covers a pretty good range. When I'm out doing general photography, I'll put this lens on my camera. It's my 'walk around lens' so to speak.

Do you have a particular type of photography in mind (landscapes, indoors, sports, etc)?
