The cost of a real wooden rolling pin is worth every penny. The tannin in wood is a natural sterilizer. My cutting board, rolling board, and rolling pin are all wood. I would never use anything else.

Not really since it hasn't been treated for food safety it may have some chemicals (like lead) that effect the taste of your food and possibly your health over time. If you have a hardware or lumber yard near by stop in and get a 1ft length of 1" dowel (about $1) - wash and lightly coat with mineral oil to seal and that will be much healthier and safer. Personally, I wouldn't. I wonder if it may transfer a metallic taste. But then I'm a traditional wood rolling pin cook.
Wash it good and give it a try. Can't hurt...

probally wont work as well. too sticky on the metal. also it might end up tasting like metal. if u end up using it wash it off real good and use allot of flour
