I once heard a guy say to me, " You arent tired of Christians and Christianity but you are tired of the hypocrites that practice it."
I really believe this could be the smartest thing that anyone has ever said to me.
I do indeed hate religion though.
So do you agree with the sentence or do you just hate religion in general?

I somewhat agree with your statement, but be mindful the the Church was created for sinners and hypocrites (like me). Only one Man was sinless, Jesus Christ who leads the Church Militant, here on Earth, and the Church Triumphant in Paradise.

What do your think Cody P?

Napoleon supposedly remarked that he hated traitors but loved treason--the reason, of course, being that he considered traitors to be dishonorable but treason useful, as long as the treason was committed against his enemies. This is somewhat analogous to your friend's comment. I have a rather strong dislike for religious hypocrisy (I still remember the bumper sticker from the 1960s that read "Kill a Commie for Christ"), and I think I know hypocrisy when I see it.

There's a difference, which both your friend and Napoleon perceived and which the church has long drawn, between the sinner and the sin. I intensely dislike the hypocrite's hypocrisy, but I cannot hate the hypocrite. I can only hope and pray that he changes from being hypocritical in his practice of his alleged beliefs to being sincere in bringing those actual beliefs into his life in such a way that what he does reflects what he says he believes. Then, even if I don't agree with his theology, I can respect his sincerity.

All religions, in fact all belief systems, suffer from hypocrites. Jesus didn't have much patience with them either. So, even if you hate religion, (which Jesus obviously did not) you're in pretty good company on this one point.

Well, I wouldn't say that I hate religion, but I find that it has truly limited mankind in it's persuit of science and reason.

The problem with religion is that it is so subjective.
There are so many different views and opinions and no real way of proving any of them.

Religion started as a primitive attempt to understand and control the world around us.
It is an outdated way to understand the world around us yet it is still so prevalent in human culture.

It wouldn't be all that bad if people would stop killing each other over their beliefs, unfortunately that is not the case.

There are lots of good things that come with organized religion, but I believe that they are completely overtaken by the negatives.

I agree with this sentence. I know exactly how that feels. I personally am a "follower of Christ" because I don't like being associated with "Christians and Christianity" because of all of the hypocrites.

Definitely agree with the sentence. Why should I hate something that has absolutely no effect on me? What other people believe is their business.

Divisive speech and hate are both SO not virtuous and will never bring peace.
