I don't need a lecture on how to raise them. I have had plenty of experience with big dogs.

I don't have to worry about which is better with kids. I do not have any and I dont plan on having them.

do your research you cant ask on here what dog would be better we don't know your circumstances,if you work where your living,make that decision your self but do research first

Malamute has a better temperament by far. I've got 4 big dogs, so I know what u mean about lectures! The best dog we have ever had (and we've had two of this breed now) is the Dogue de Bordeaux - obedient, loyal, great with kids, but I would pity a burglar!

Since I guess this is just a personal taste question...I'd go for the malamute. Akita's would be on my list of dogs I could see myself getting though too. Both are cool dogs.

its going to be a personal thing - and all the people answering will give an answer on what type of dog they like through experience! so i will do the same lol
i like northern breeds - they have a certain independence, they do their own thing and have their own mind but are loyal to their families.
so get a malamute - they are a good bit bigger than an akita, and are more wolflike so they will scare people off better in my opinion, thats if you want a guard dog

Better how? We don't know anything about you, so how can we begin to guess?
I've owned both. They are very similar in temperament, although Akitas can be a bit edgier about territory and other dogs.
Don't take this as a lecture, but you should research both breeds and decide which is better for you.

I'd say Akita. That's just because they are more of a gurd dog and have alot of affection to give. they also don't need as much excercise and are alot easier to train.

MALAMUTES ARE AWESOME DOGS!!! they are beautiful and very intelligent! you wont regret getting them! However, i have also heard stories about one that actually figured out how to turn on the TV and a different one who figured out how to turn on his masters go cart, and drove in into the side of a shed....

i think akitas are more beutiful so is the malamute but akits are very dog aggresive
