My step-dad is in the Marines, so I've traveled a lot. One of the places I lived at was MCAS Iwakuni, Japan. I am going to join the Air Force, and I started wondering if it was even the remotest chance that I could be stationed there as Air Force active duty. I'm more curious than anything, because while I do want to get stationed in Japan again, there are a couple AF bases there I could get stationed at if I was so lucky.

Its a possibility if there is an Air Force unit there with an opening in your AFSC. I have been stationed at an Army post and a Naval Air Station. You might want to ask your step dad if he remembers any Air Force personnel at MCAS Iwakuni when you were stationed there. If not, we have some cool places, too.

I don't think the Air Force would station you at a Marine Corps Air Station even if you wanted them to I was stationed at MCAS Kaneohea Bay, Oahu Hawaii and there was Hickum Air Force Base on the other side of the island. Only time they would do it was if your speciality Training required it and them the Marine Corps would have to agree

Air Force = Air Force Base. Don't worry the AF bases are typically much nicer than the MCAS.

Depending on your MOS, you can be stationed anywhere the Air Force has a unit. It doesn't have to be on an Air Force base.

Unlikely you'll be stationed at Iwakuni. Yokota AB, Misawa AB and Kadena AB (Okinawa) are possibilities.
