Do you have a renters insurance policy? You can't put in a claim under someone else's policy. And it doesn't cover the stuff that belongs to a tenant.

Likely, their homeowners carrier doesn't know that you're renting a room in their house, because if they did, they'd want to cancel the policy.

Bottom line - if you don't insure your stuff, you're not insured. Sorry.

That is correct. The owner is not responsible for any of your personal belongings. Renter's policies are extremely inexpensive, however, be sure to get a low deductible. A typical deductible is $1000 and you probably don't want to submit a claim for a tv of a value close to the same amount.
Also, with many companies you can get free renter's insurance if you have your vehicle insured as well.

No you need to buy renters insurance. You are responsible for everything you bring into the home. Policy are very cheap. You should look into getting a policy.

If you rent the room, probably not - it would be covered under your renter's insurance if you have it.
